I recently splurged and bought a pair of first lite obsidian foundry pants for early season. Their big sale convinced me. They came in the mail yesterday and I pulled them out and couldn’t believe how noisy they are. They’re not quite ski pants noisy, but very far from quiet. Is this normal? I’ve been wondering if I was sent the wrong model and did some looking online. Various comments about how quiet they are. Even a review on YouTube where a guy (not first lite affiliate) is bragging them up, but as he’s talking you can can hear them scratching/swishing. Do they soften with time? Recommendations on quiet alternatives? Cheaper is better, I don’t need any fancy labels. I’d rather pay for quality than advertising.

Yes it's normal and the obsidian foundry aren't as loud as some of the other pants like the corrugate guide. I own 2 pairs of the corrugate guides, and obsidians, and a pair each of the obsidian foundry, guide light, and catalyst. The original obsidian are very quiet and the catalyst is acceptably quiet for bow hunting the rest I have relegated to hiking or gun hunting. I will add they do get a bit quieter with some wear and washing.

I have some original obsidians and kanabs before those, dead silent. I noticed the foundry version looks to have some different material on the lower legs vs the seat and back of the backs. I’m guessing this is where the noise is coming from? Interesting as I wanted to buy a pair of the foundry’s today before the sale ends. I see the foundry’s are waist specific where the old ones had elastic waists….which in my young old age I appreciate

I just double checked the website. The obsidian foundry’s are listed as a merino hybrid. And that’s where your noise is coming from. The original obsidian are a full merino. Sorry for your luck but Atleast I know which ones to buy

I bought a pair in 2019. They fit well and weren't too noisy, but their durability is awful. The seat and knees wore thin in the first season. They became holes in the second season. They ended up in the trash in the third season. The Cabelas Microtex pants are still my favorite warm weather pants, and they are reasonably priced.

Matt are you talking about the orginal obsidian merino? I had the same experience with the original obsidian and apparently so did many others that's why they reinforced the crotch, seat, and lower legs with rip stop nylon on the obsidian foundry. Which did fix the durability issues but that nylon is loud.

Mine did not have any reinforcement patches, unfortunately. Basically they were expensive disposable pants after one long elk season. I probably will never buy another First lite product again, as a result.

I won't bowhunt in noisy clothes.
