The one with the bloody nose has the string for the tag collecting the blood. But you do have a point. Next year's pictures I'll do better. *** I will keep posting the rest of the season's pictures when I get back in a week.

Our hunts are Semi guided.... semi guided can save you big bucks. Driving yourself to and from the bait stations, baiting your site yourself once we show you your assigned bait station. Skinning and quartering your own bear. Helping in the tracking and retrieval of your animal and sometimes tracking and retrieving your bear without our help if you prefer. These days, saving money on a semi guided hunt can be a great thing.

With a guided semi guided hunt, you can actually take pride in the fact that much of your success was because of the work you did yourself. We start baiting each site a month in advance of your arrival. Bringing in multiple bears to the bait, creating competition for the bait by many bears. Each bear trying to get some of the bait before the others.

When you arrive we explain how we bait and suggest you follow our suggestions. Ask lots of questions, no questions are silly. Each morning and before you leave to your bait we ar in the lodge or at the bait house doling out each hunters bait. Again if you need to ask a question we are there to answer. Your success depends on you listening and following our suggestions.

Cabin #5

This cabin has 2 bedrooms... sleeps 2, 4, 6 guys

At Pine Acres Bear Camp main base, you stay in your own cabin right at the lodge. You are not mixed in with other groups. Guides live at main base.

Each cabin has a full kitchen, bathroom and 1 to 4 bedrooms. Do your own cooking in the cabin or on the BBQ. Water is safe treated drinking water. Cable tv in cabins. We have six cabins at main Base in Vermilion Bay.

Things sure have changed here at Pine Acres since 1974, the year our family moved from Manitoba and bought the camp in Ontario. I was 12 years of age. 1974, the only bow I had ever seen and used was a homemade one made of a large birch branch. First few years of Bear Hunting at Pine Acres was skipping school and chasing Bears using Plott hounds. Quit school in 78' to play with the Bears full time. Late 70's, bowhunters numbers was less than 5% of total Bear hunters here at camp. Mid 80's about 25% of total bear hunters were Archers. Bowhunting magazine's increased production and by late 80's around 35% at camp were Archers. Now our total amount of Archers at camp is near 85%.

I have never, in all the years living here, seen a coon in Vermilion Bay. We were trying to trap a skunk and got this guy. Knowing his chances of survival is slim, we let him go in between 2 farms. Dont want coons here, but just had to help the little guy survive a cold winter.

Trains stop here to load lumber and he must have jumped off.

Let me know if you want some more of them, Chris. I’ll ship you up as many of the dang things as I can catch. Very few trappers and coon hunters around here anymore, and their numbers have exploded in the midwest. They are very hard on turkey, quail and pheasant nests, not to mention my corn food plots :-(
