He’d look good strapped to the hood of a low rider.

Nmwapiti - that’s first thought I had as well. Article mentioned he was low in fat/very lean because he was burning more fat to stay warm without the hair…but still!

His dad Steve is a friend of mine and sent me that pic this week. Never saw such a thing before, very interesting. I can't imagine that deer could have survived the entire upcoming mid-western winter hairless.

What part of Illinois, Greg? I’d imagine even in southern Illinois, the chances of that buck surviving the winter would be pretty low. From the pic, my guess would be the buck was at least 1 1/2, possibly 2 1/2. I wonder if it developed this condition this spring/summer.

t-roy they live in New Baden IL (just east of St Louis) but hunt a good ways to the southeast of there. I'm thinking there's no way that deer was hairless last winter. Whatever happened to it must've occurred this spring or summer.

Dale is about 40 miles east of me in southern Illinois. Very near to where I go on my yearly bowhunting trip. We don't get as much snow as we used to, but the temps get down in the single digits pretty often and we have a cold snap coming like that next week. I don't see how that deer could live through even a mildly harsh winter.

That deer looks like a giant walking scrotum!!! No way could I eat that meat. Probably not anything wrong with it, but damn that is one ugly creature!

I wonder if anyone had trail cameras photos of it from last year? They are such tough, resilient animals that while I can't imagine it surviving a winter, they have proven me wrong before.....

Hmmmm, a little hair on its ears, pubic area, and scent glands. That’s about the same for me except my hocks ain’t been too dark in a few years……

GFL - What is that a hairless gray squirrel? Is/was it alive in photo?
Bet it had a heck of a time jumping from tree to tree, they use their splayed tail as a rutter in mid air... I bet he fell a lot...8^)

Careful, it'll steal your backpack when you're not looking.
