Deer on the properties I bowhunt seem to have declined in the last 5 years. N.E. Iowa. I do the bowhunter survey so know I have spent "more" than 100 hours those last 5 years IN the stand (hours are logged). Mind you, I've been bowhunting since 1956 arrowed my 1st in 1958 & been blessed with many Does & a wide variety of bucks. Anyway, I passed on Deer season, my 1st in 65 years. Why? I no longer shoot Does & set a personal goal for my next Buck (I was never head hunter all these years). So, I'm watching my son & bowhunting G-sons do it. They have done pretty good in Il & I am getting my venison fix.. Whitetail is the only critter getting the pass. Everything else is still fair game, either sex. My observations seem to be spot on as the gun hunters of 1 private I hunt never shot a Deer on it.
