I see Fred Mentoring , nice . Great photo. This was a favorite hunt. 25 minutes from start till finish , it doesn't happen like that often . QUARTERMOON Longbow , A bamboo backed Osage longbow 58# .Birch arrow called into 13 yards by my friend. Satellite Bull. Great hunt , great memory . Nice all wood bow . Although technically bamboo is a grass.

I started bow hunting in 1983 with Browning deluxe Nomad round wheel compound. Compounds of come along way since then. Now I shoot recurve, longbow and selfbow. I don’t care what you choose to hunt with. I enjoy hunting with a gun as well. Some got real defensive and hurt feelings when I asked about knowing who Fred Bear was. I really didn’t think that was going to be such a controversial question. I shoot a simple stick and string. That’s just the way I enjoy doing it. Shoot straight! I know it’s hard to believe sometimes but believe it or not. We are all on the same team. What you choose to hunt with is up to you;)

Don, nobody got "defensive or hurt feelings" about your Fred Bear thread. Some people took offense to the way you asked the question, as if you were implying non-trad shooters may not have knowledge of one famous bowhunter. Had you phrased it the same as you did on the Tradzi forum, you would have received much different responses.

My boys back about 1977 were able to hunt effectively due to the early compounds. Later years brought better bows and better hunters when they get started early in life. I still bowhunt but more about my offspring than me.

I shot this buck with an Outers bow in 1980. He was chasing a doe past me at 15 yards when I shot him. I didn't lead him far enough and hit him in the hindquarters. Bear broadhead did its job and he piled up 70 yards later.
When I started bow hunting the local supermarket had a sporting goods section and that is were I bought this bow. I still have that bow and looking at it now it is hard to fathom how I ever killed a deer with it.
