Been using AAE hybrid 26’s for a couple years, getting the itch to try something new.
What I’m looking for is the quietest 3 fletch that steers fixed blade heads well.
What’s your go to?
I’m in the minority, but I like feathers. Currently I’m shooting 3” four fletch.
I’m also running 3” 4 fletch feathers. Love the forgiveness
Silent Knight 3”. But, the Easton bully vane does great too.
3 - 4" feathers, when I was shooting IBO 'traditional' class that was the min requirement. Haven't seen a reason to change.
Had been shooting shooting AAE Max Stealths for the past four years or so and really liked them on my 5mm Axis. However, they are a little heavy being 9 grains each. I four fletch my arrows. I’m trying out the 4mm Axis this year and switched to TAC Driver 2.75 vanes. So far they are flying well and seem to be a little quieter too.
Silent knight 2” in four fletch.
I've shot AAE Max Hunters for a number of years now. But I am going to try the DCA Super Sabre, they are in the mail.
TAC driver 2.25 in a 4 fletch left helical on a bitz..
Shot Blazers for years, switched to AAE Max Hunters. Happy so far.
White Lightning…..
White Lightning…..
Q2i Fusion ii 2.1” they are incredible. No distortion. Stiff. Quiet. Easy to fletch.
No reason to change…Blazers
Liking the Q2i Fusion-II 2.1” as well.
Ozark mountain feathers. 3 3” fluorescent yellow.
Fusion 2.1 also for handful of years, 3 fletch. Love them for hunting, 1.75” SL for 3D.
Been shooting 4 fletch AAE Max Stealth for several years now after shooting 3 fletch Blazers for as long as I can recall. I have no complaints with my 5mm Acis and Magnus Stingers. Probably the best arrow setup I have had. As someone else mentioned, they are a tad heavy. I tried some in a 3 fletch last summer and felt like I was getting the occasional erratic flight so I went back to 4. Could have just been me though?
I have been happy with Vanetec swift vanes 2.88 .
Same as Blood and Matt. Really great vanes.
AAE Max Stealth for me too.
I’ll be putting Q2i Fusion 2.1 this year on my arrows once I have the time. I’ll be in 4 fletch.
shield cut left wing feathers
Been shooting Blazers for a while now.
I have been building my own arrows since I started archery/bowhunting in 1956. I guess I've shot about every type fletch you can think of. I still build/repair for 8 family members. Personally, I prefer a feather but switch to various vanes. Blazers most of the time. Just build a set of outdoor target arrows & they are 4 fletch (photo). I see no difference in 3 or 4 fletch when "I" shoot them. Actually, little difference when switching to a vane. Feathers "I think" are a little more forgiving & weather is no problem.. I've competed in near hurricane rain too. Last fall my hunting arrows were 2" 4 fletch with a 3 blade fixed.
5" Trueflight Barred feathers (Yellow and Red) on my broadheads with 3 fletch radical leftwing Helical. Been shoot these since G. Fred Asbell showedme how to modify my fletching jig 35-40 years ago. For my practice arrows and Judo's I shoot 3 fletch solid Yellow with the same radical Helical
Blazer. I tried a couple of other options 4-fletch, personally didn't see any benefit, added $ of 1 more fletch to each shaft, went back to Blazer. If it ain't broke...
15 years shooting FOB'S (Fletching Only Better). The name could be better but the function is great.
2" Flex Fletch Flash when i can find them
3" Silent Knight Vanes. Love 'em!
A couple of years ago I switched to TAC Driver 2.75’s in a 4 fletch 2 degree left offset configuration. You will get a lot of different recommendations, so I suggest you try various ones and then use the one which is best for you.
Shot three 4" feathers for years. Switched to Blazers several years ago and have no reason to change.
Shoot three 5" feathers out of my recurve.
Flex Fletch FFP 300, vanetec swift 2.88 are the 2 I like to work with. The FF are incredibly light.
Was re-reading an article in an old issue of 'Traditional Bowehunter' magazine, one guy tried the short 'bat wing' feathers and got good results even with large broadheads. (Helical fletched.)
I’ve shot snugger heads out of recurves with blazer vanes off the shelf. All it takes is proper tuning. And 4 fletch or three fletch with big vanes is a cover up for less than perfect tuning in most cases.
Maybe it’s personal preference in sone cases. Maybe it’s a failsafe. Maybe they look better. I don’t know. But, a 2-3 inch vanes or feathers will stabilize big broadheads perfectly. EVERYTIME. If your setup is tuned.
Ones that don't fall off ?
I like 3 X 4” feathers, not too high profile. Plenty of stabilization, not an awful amount of noise. I used to go larger but as my tuning skills have improved, I have been seeing the advantages of less drag. I think if I were just stand-hunting for not-too-jumpy whitetails, I might go back up to 4 1/2” or 5” to get that arrow settled quickly for close range impacts.
One of the guys on the wall posted a snip of “artificial feathers” which are apparently made like a thin strip of brush. They sound kind of atrocious and they’re really cheap, but I can’t help but wonder if they would be good on a rainy day…. Might be worth looking into it, at least…
I just haven’t been able to figure out where he saw them….
3" feathers. Also set up couple arrows w/ 3" vanes. (Blazer) Just for wet weather. Feathers r more forgiving. Seem to stabilize well. It what works for ur set up.
3" Silent Knight by FlexFletch. 3-fletch set at max angle possible on the Bitz.
Q2i Fusion 2.1 in four fletch for about six years on 5mm Axis shafts.
Blazers, but I have tried many others, I have some AAE max hunters as well, they are good as well
