We usually use snow quincy's but we had hardly enough snow for them. The pop up's came in handy in the minus thirties. Able to use comfortable swivel chairs.
After the New Year, we noticed we were not seeing much in the area of Wolf sign. We decided to spend a few days snowshoeing into areas where we thought they might be... We found some sign. Followed one wolf to see what he was up to and used his route to learn what they were up to.

We found a few road kill deer and got possession permits for the baits. One evening we set out a road kill, was completely gone over nite. This bone was all that was left. Hardly any snow makes for a lean winter for the wolves. Dependent on the baits this winter.

We gutted the inside of this cabin. Putting new windows and doors. New electrical and plumbing throughout. As we were gutting the inside we found a couple of stashed whiskey bottles in the wall. Now I know why everything was crooked. Was built in 1950 as the letter I am showing dated Oct 1950, written by the owner of Pine Acres at the time, says inside the letter, that they were just finishing up this cabin.
I think they bought 200 pounds of 4 inch nails on sale and made sure they used them all. Took forever to pull them out. The 2x4's on the inside walls were not used in the traditional way, they were flat on the walls. Out side walls, studs were 2 to 3 foot apart so we reframed the whole thing. No headers but now we do. We have to improvise on everything. Its kinda a fun experience thogh.

Wow...don't see penmanship like that these days!
That is awesome, so cool! Must say this does not surprise me, the wavy floors, ceiling, and such, lol. Love the letter and bottles. Any whiskey left in them?

Fall 2022 Wolf...
Dave, this wolf was shot opening day last Fall... we can even get hunters close enough to get a shot with a bow. Fall is the leanest time for wolves, easy to bait in.
*** we have availability for Fall 2023 Wolf Only Hunts. Very successful. September 15th to December 15th. 2023.
Great job Chris! Can’t wait to get back up there. Gonna have to try a wolf hunt soon. We’re definitely gonna have a lot of hillbillies in camp that week.
Love the whisky bottle and letters! Beautiful penmanship.

Wolf hunting is a great way to take out some wolves and keep the wolf population in check. Here is a picture of one ground blind not yet hunted from. Lots of wolf activity at this spot. On private land. Another group of hunters arrive on the 18th.
Chris, love your thread every year. Greg
Thx Greg
We ordered paneling for the inside of the cabin from a local Lumber yard. Had to order minimum order of 30 sheets for a very low price of $112.00 each, colonial Pine. Said be here in 2 weeks. That was January 12th. It has not shown up yet as of March 6th.
Went to Menards in International Fall Yesterday. They had what we were waiting for from local yard in stock and for $29.00 USD. Kicker is the paneling is "MADE IN CANADA". So we are going in and seeing if we can cancel and run South to our neighbors and get our supply's. Canada's supply chain is broken!!
