First Sign Of Spring!

And it looks like it's an early one at that! I'm in north central Illinois, and I saw/heard Sandhill Cranes in big flocks migrating north ALL DAY, and I was in several different locations. For this area, this is about 2 weeks earlier than "normal". We do have resident Sandhills that stay around all year, but they're usually in pairs and are not very high off the ground when they fly. Hopefully they're right!
Looking forward to spring this year for sure! I'm a bit too far south to see sandhills, but I always smile when the robins show up in the yard.
Be cutting grass by end march
I live in south Central, I never see Crans down here. Lot of snows and Canadians around.
Spring is a few months out for here. Looking forward to skinning bears and camping in t shirts again tho!
They're getting into the spirit!
Bass are getting active in southern IN.
Yeah, this has happened before. At this point, just hoping we don't get a 3-5 day cold snap that kills all the early growth...as that has happened before as well. I forget exactly what year that happened, but the woods in turkey season looked like we were hunting the whitetail rut in November.
More snow this week here......
Cali is getting deep snow that is coming to us this weekend.
My back is sore every day and I have a snowblower!
Bummer,
Robb
Spring peepers have been sounding of for the last week. I guess they were getting restless kinda early for them.
No peepers yet but, I’ve heard several robins so far. The neighbors Japanese maples are starting to bud. It’s about two-three weeks early. But, there should be green in turkey season unlike last year.
No sign of Spring here. Another 5" snow yesterday. Heading to Canada in a few minutes for a few days of fishing. 8 below right now.
No sign of spring in western Mn.
We received over a foot of snow last week and they are taking more snow at the end of next week.
The boat is ready to go just waiting to see some 50 degree days in the forecast for Chamberlain SD.
Lots of fish being caught on the Fox in DePere Wi right now.
Lastest forecast says we're to get 3" to 7" of snow Friday, but then the next day it's back up in the 40's so it won't last. Typical March "winter".
The Turkey Vultures showed up yesterday.
All my pear trees in full bloom.
Spring? That's a name I haven't heard in a long time......
About 40 robins in yd last wk. 2 stayed. Mich. 60 on tues. Typical march.
Weather has been crazy here. Everything is blooming. Easter Lilies are in full bloom and my grass is close to needing cut. It is supposed to be a cold snap next week which will nip everything in the bud.
I hope my pear and apple buds dont get hammered in SC by frost
No shortage of snow statewide! Above average snowpack is the norm here this year.
No shortage of snow statewide! Above average snowpack is the norm here this year.
No signs of spring in the Pacific NW
Snow off and on for the last week.
We’ve had below average temps for the whole month of Feb, and the trend is forecasted to continue for at least the next week.
At this point I don’t have high hopes for the the April 1st spring bear opener.
Looks like an early Spring here in KY as well
We noticed the cranes going North a week or so ago. It does seem a little early. Our Redbud trees are all budded out as well.
Couple Sandhills returned to their usual area a few days ago. 35 degrees today. Saw Turkeys struttin & fanned (of course they do this all the time). N.E. Ia.. Relative in Mn just got another 8" of fresh snow.
15" of snow in west-central MN yesterday!
Bought my turkey lisc. today. Season opens up April 12th . Looks like we will still have a few feet of snow in MN by then.
That said saw about 30 turkeys today along the creek in one of my hunting spots.
Oh boy the plum tree is flowering Oh shit it’s February I told my wife not to plan on any plums this year. Oh and the toads are spawning on our pond at least 2 weeks early.Good Luck Lewis

This is getting to the point that winter kill and animals getting hit on the roads from coming down so low because of deep snow.
I wonder how bad the tag cuts will be for draw hunts for this fall?
Good luck, Robb
Still winter out west. Couple more months :)
Great pic Hunt Man! Any cold ones in the cooler?
Was just standing at my kitchen window looking at the crabapple tree 10' away, when suddenly a half dozen Robins landed in it! It's here!
We got our first measurable snowfall at the start of this week. I had all manner of bulbs starting to show green before that, but so far I don’t think it has been cold enough to kill anything.
Haven’t heard any amphibians at the club yet, but they really shouldn’t be out for at least a month, I’d think…
"The boys are back in town"!
Swans are coming thru Southern Mn.
OK - have to update. Saturday was chilly & quiet. Today was a good bit warmer and the frogs are tuning up.
The first sign of Spring in Texas is severe thunderstorms, hail, and tornadoes. We had them this past week and are sure to have some more.
Meanwhile, at my sis-in-law’s hometown……..
It got above 20 here for the first time since November this week. I'm looking forward to climbing mountains.
Robins in SE Mn yesterday
Been 90 here for two weeks, my turkey season doesn’t open till Saturday but we already have lone hens looking for nesting spots. Gonna be a short turkey season.
RD, tell those red breasters to stay down there for a while! Not much up in the Fargo they will like. More of it coming tomorrow too!
Saw a woodchuck the other day here in central NY. It wasn't Punxsutawney Phil.
Same here Lewis, plums and peaches are about to bloom. I'm sure they'll get bit
Scoot, just blew out my driveway, about 5 inches worth. My mother in law used to say the robins had to get their feet in 3 fresh snows before spring, this was ONE!
Robin's and Red wing black birds returned only to be greeted by 8 inches of heavy snow... oh well closer to spring then winter, have a great weekend all.
It's 87 degrees today and the turkey are gobbling their heads off.
About everyday I have to clear the driveway. Ready to see the grass again.
The buckeyes are mostly leafed out and it hit 63 today.
Got another 3” today, on top of the 4” from a few days ago. Really pretty on the trees right now, though. Agree with HUNT. Getting tired of clearing the driveway this winter.
Nothing I can think of that says “spring” any louder!!
No sign of spring here. Got another foot of snow over the weekend.
First robins here in Central Minnesota. Been hearing them for about a week. Finally saw one.
We just broke the all-time (1983) record snow fall.
Over 750 inches and up to 800 inches in some areas of the state.
We have more coming too, dang it.
In the low 20's and colder for this coming week, for low temps.
Good luck, Robb
Watched your turkey hunts on the THP Shiloh. Great stuff!! Hope you enjoy more success this season
Going to be 67 here today. Robins are every where. I’m going to mow my grass sometime in the next week. It’ll be the earliest I ever remember by about a month.
Hope you guys still socked in get a break soon.
I forgot to mention that this morning I was shooting my bow in a pair of shorts, flip flops, a tee shirt and a ball cap.
Yeah, that was a low blow. But, I had to throw it out there. :^)
Tell me about it.
Tell me about it.
3” of snow forecasted for Friday in Chamberlain SD but 50 by Sunday.
Time to get the boat ready for next weekend.
FIRST SIGN OF SPRING, APRIL 16th......
Spring? That's a name I haven't heard in a long time.
Bumper boat time here on the River, saugers are hitting.
Bumper boat time here on the River, saugers are hitting.
Melt has not started yet. -17 this morning and no sign of the melt in the two week forecast. We are still making ice, and I had to double up on the extension on the weekend to get through to the walleyes. Though I did finally see a goose.
-20c at 0915 here just north of Winnipeg, still making ice
