Hey all, I’ve decided it’s time to get a new range finder. I’ve noticed my eyes aren’t quite as good in low light conditions as they used to be and I’m having a hard time seeing the display in black numbers. Is there a good one with a red display you’ve deemed tried and true? And no, I don’t want ranging binoculars. I mostly hunt archery elk in thicker stuff so often I don’t even carry Bino’s. Unneeded extra weight. I love my Nikon but figured I’ll just pass it down to one of my sons as it still works good as new.

Bushnell Broadhead…red display in low light, black in bright light. Best of both worlds.

I’ve been very happy with my Vortex Ranger 1500, although I like the idea of red/black display that Nick mentions.

Leica. I’ve had a 900 Leica for 10 years, and it’s been flawless.

I've owned, Vortex, Nikon, Bushnell, Sig, leupold & Leica. Leica being the best I've owned. It's the Leica Rangefinder R 1600. It's a few years old & sold for 499.00

Switched to the Leupold RX-1600i TBR from the RX-1200i TBR for your exact reason…..the lighted red reticle is much easier to see.

Keep an eye on Cabela's 'Bargain Cave' for good deals on 'last years' models.'

Just remember on those Leupold's, after a few years the red display will start to fade around the edges. I've had it happen twice...and they have no warranty so you're SOL at that point. Other than that, they are really nice.

Which ever one you pick, make sure you take it outside (not just in store) and check red light because even at lowest setting, it can be too bright in am. Good luck.

Agree on Leopold. Never again. Hardly used it and the LED faded to nothing. Company said I was SOL too.

Done with them for everything, not just rangefinder.

Using SiG and so far it’s been good. I also bought a cheap Tidewe rangefinder from Amazon and it’s as accurate as my SIG and 80% less expensive.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Interesting Pat, I’ll have to check out the “Tidewe”. Never heard of them at all. I’m definitely leaning toward the Sig or Leica. Will have to handle them both and make a decision.

Pat… regarding Leopold. I sent in a mid-price range pair binoculars to get an eye piece repaired, and the took it upon themselves to send me a new bottom price range pair, in exchange for my pair, that are absolute junk. I’m done with them on everything. And I make it a point to tell everyone that asks me about binoculars.

I really like my Leica but one of my favorites was an Optilogic with either 1x or 2x magnification. Let my father borrow it and haven't seen it since. Sometimes I feel the Leica is overpowered at 8X.
