I'm sure this has been discussed already but I did a quick search and could not find in a previous thread...

I have 14 elk PP and last applied in 2018. I can't hunt CO this year and wondering what the cheapest license (small game?) is that gets me eligible for a PP? Probably won't bother doing it since I'm in no man's land and my points remain good until 2028.

Small game seems to be the cheapest.

You wouldn't be in no man's land if you had applied for the last 5 years

I'm wondering with the new NR tag allocation how thats going to change the draw odds? I have 19 points and was hoping to draw 76, but now I doubt I have enough.

Small game lic. is a requirement now to draw...and if you don't put in this year you will I think lose your pts.

^^Stick, he will not lose his points.

Small game license is the cheapest qualifying license.

Annual NR Small game license $93.78 + Mandatory Habitat Stamp $11.50 + Application Fee per species $10.00 = total $115.28

As a Resident I pay $80 to hunt small game, fish and apply every year.

NonRes get their fishing license for free and they still bitch.

And it takes 10 years of not applying before you lose your PPs.

Sorry, my mistake, I was told last week it was now 5 years of no PP drawing that the points went away.....

Now come on Brad. They give that fishing license to us for free to make us feel like we actually got something out of it. Those monster 6in long trout I catch ease the pain of paying $760 to take my rifle or bow on a hike/camping trip in Colorado :)

Ha! Just turned 65. No Habitat stamp for me any more!

Beware on that 10 yrs. It's about time they'll change it up to throw a bunch off and lose their points. Happened to me back in the early 2000's. Lost 6 pts. and I could draw any unit in the state if they hadn't. Its been at least 3 different ways since the late 90's.

Celk, does Co get anything by giving nonres a fishing license? Like federal money of some sort?

From: JRABQ

I've heard the fishing license add on does get them more money from the Feds due to some accounting gimmick in the Pittman Robertson Act, or something like that. A few other states also play this game.

If the OP had applied every year he would still be in no mans land. 18-19 points will get you 76 and 40 but upper units will never be attainable with point creep.

I would hardly call 19 points "no man's land". Yes he can't draw the highest demand units but he would have multiple options.

Another way to look at it, if he would have hunted 49 every time he had enough points to draw it (2 points when he first started) he could have hunted it 5 or 6 times, gotten to know it and had fantastic hunts. That's what I would have done... Or he could have hunted 76 2 or 3 times. Now he can only draw it once.
