Results BEFORE Utah deadline?
Elk

What results do you think we will have before April 27 (the Utah deadline)? WY elk? CO mnt goat & sheep? NM? Trying to hold of my Utah app in case I draw elsewhere and because I buy my license this year.
NM for sure, WY definitely not.
NM is supposed to be the only one.
That's what I was guessing Wyoming I was just kind of hoping they weren't going to take as long as they say. Odds have gotten so low I don't even know why I'm worried about it :-)
Yea NM should be next Wednesday.
How does NM get the results out so quickly?
CO sheep and goat on April 18, allegedly.
Colorado has been on time the last 2 years. The date printed on the back of the regs states "April 18 Draw results posted online by this date (check your online account) " Per their app on my phone I can see my sheep and mt goat points for 2022 all updated on April 15th so that was the Friday before they announced. I'm pretty sure the draw has happened. Good to luck with the results for all. Sandbrew
"How does NM get the results out so quickly?"
Because hunts begin in June with off range oryx.
NM fast? FLorida you apply for gator Friday and you know if you drew 3 days later on Monday....................
Thanks!
"How does NM get the results so quickly?" Man that is a question I would have never thought would be uttered. Way back in the day, we applied in March and didn't get results until June. WY was awesome until they changed it a few years ago. Deadline to apply was Jan 31 and you got results in February. I honestly don't know what takes so long now that it is all done online. Push the button and spit out the results! (I know it isn't quite that simple, but it isn't months worth of work either.)
In Wyoming NRs have to apply before quotas are even set, thank those great outfitters we have. They want your apps in before other states to try and lock you in to hunting here. NRs do get their elk results before residents in Wyoming.
Colorado apps are due in April before the tag quotas are set in May. That's why it takes them a long time.
Colorado apps should be due in January and should be non-refundable. That would help prevent Colorado from being everyone's back up elk state.
I get that they have to wait for tag quotes but why not move the app period to that time? Why apply, then wait a month or two for quotas? But the longer they give to apply the more apps they get, so more $$$$$
Don, Wyoming is because of the outfitter lobby. You have 1 month to apply for elk and then until May to modify your apps. The outfitters want Wyoming elk applications to be the first ones NR apply for, kind of guaranteeing them some business. Most residents think it is stupid, apps before quotas are set but that lobby is strong in Wyoming. Look at what they got started with the Task Force, that was a crock from the get go mainly set up to help outfitters get more of a guaranteed income. They threw a few bones to residents at NRs expense to get some things passed.
I agree the wait time between app to draw is too long for elk.
Don- you’ll be buying a license for UT regardless of other draws unless you’re not even concerned with buying points correct? Put in for a premium unit and if you get lucky you won’t be worrying about other states.
In the age of computers (most of these draws were originally done on paper), the results of these draws should be out very shortly after the draw deadline.
California gets their draw results out within 2 weeks of the app deadline. If California, with all its dysfunctional government can do it, then everyone else can too.
There's just no one holding their feet to the fire, which is why they walk and don't run.
If these states could get their results out sooner, they could have longer app periods and we could avoid the occasional glut of tags and the occasional dilemma posted by the OP.
wytex thanks I did not know that. straight shooter yes i am buying a license but the license is good for 365 days, so I buy one every other year. Last year I did not buy one (I used 2021 license). So the later I buy this year the more time I have to apply next year - just to be safe.
I did not draw sheep or mnt goat in CO, so once I hear about NM (not likely) I will apply in Utah!
UT apps are in now that NM results have reared its ugly head.
What state will post results next?
Ditto HDE! I think WY is next, by far my best bet, special general elk and moose???? Hopin....
^^^ according to what it's "supposed" to take, I am guaranteed a UT antelope tag this year...
