Springtime in Wyoming
Elk
Contributors to this thread:
'morning All,
I just got back from last week up in Wyoming.
Talk about still being a winter wonderland with trails turning into creeks from the run off and muchy slides too.
Kinda a pinch dangerous to be out hiking solo when those dang mud slides come down off the steep side of a trail.
I lugged my Digi-Scoping gear with me for some close pix to no avail.
I'm just lucky to live on the corner of Happy and Healthy!
Thanks for taking the time to view All.

Still plenty of snow in the high country
I wanted to put in for Region G deer but after not seeing a Single deer anywheres, I'm starting to double think that idea.
I did make it to the cabin before it started to rain though.
Unfortunately, I did see a lot of this winter kill on elk.
I try and not put too much of this type of pix as my threads have morphed into family viewing and questions about hunting to vacation options.
So just as an example

Here is a link to the Cabin place.
On normal years during this Mothers Day week trip, the elk are all over this south facing mountain area, not a single elk sighted.
It's like they haven't migrated in from winter range?
Just 2 Velvet Bull moose.
That wraps up this early AM.
Get my hike in then its Lowe's for Sprinkler line repairs! Crap----

Good luck, Robb
Yep it’s been a rough winter in WY on that side of the state. Now it’s warming up and we’ll have to worry about flooding.
Robb, great photos! Love the cabin!
ElkNut
Robb, Nice cabin but not good news on the elk and deer situation. Thanks for sharing the pictures and information, Badbull.
We just went above pinedale fishing. The piles of dead lope are unreal. It is also crazy how much snow is still left…
Thanks for the kind words.
Someone was axing about ATV rentals last year in Alpine/Alpine Junction, here ya go
Trails have turned into creeks by mid-morning as more snow melts.
Still plenty of deep snow to melt too.
I ran into the guy who owns a bunch of Sheep and his 3 Hispanic herders when I was coming out on a trail, and he said he doubted he would be grazing before mid-June.
What a mess the trail was going out after 4 horses chewed it up coming in!!
Mother Nature Power washed my JPGladiator for me.
I was worried about hail though.

First time ever on my yearly Mother's Day week trip, that I didn't see a single Live Elk or Deer and only 2 velvet moose.
I had a fun get-a-way all in all.
I'm back up in a month with a bud that drew the Gen tag, for another look-see.
That's it for this early AM.
Maybe some This-n-That manyana.
Thanks again for taking the time to view All.

These are always great threads
Gasoline is more than that here, and it's usually more expensive in and around Afton. Always fond memories when I see your pics. Hopefully I can get back out in a few years. I assume there is absolutely no way to get in the Greys valley over Commissary right now?
No deer at all! I hope I can find at least one. I’m going for it.
Guess the flood of Elk applications isnt going to go that well for all who were successful. May be a good thing we didnt draw ours that were 100% last 5 years with 4 points and dropped to 8.75% this year.
Any this and that photos?
Great photos Robb, makes me want to move to Wyoming...out there with Ole Walt Longmire
Great pics Robb! Certainly was a rough winter all the way around hopefully the herds rebound with the grasses and moisture that remains. .
Thanks for the input/kind words fella's.
Corey, maybe mid-June for the Greys/Little Greys.
Way into July for Commissary Ridge!
Go for it Joe!
Nick, hehe, sure thing man.
Good luck, Robb
Yeah, more like Those-n-Them..........

Looks like another great trip to God’s country, Robb! Sad news on the impacts of this winter on the wildlife. I’m sitting on a pile of deer points up there and was hoping that this would be the year to use them…
True that Tavis.
My worries are if we have another big winter next year....could be devastating!
I applied for my deer tag yesterday, 4 points....cheapie fee.
Good luck, Robb
Tavis Joe is dead set on using his but I'm not sure I would. I'm holding mine.
If you guys draw G or 102, let me know as I can share intel from experience and knowledge.
Good Luck, Robb
Thanks for sharing the great pics. I love my Midwest whitetails here in Illinois, but there is something special about the West and those mountains and critters. I'm looking forward to being out there this December.
