I could be way off but I think coyote and foxes lose a lot of their hair during the summer months and basically look loke crap. If he looks like that in November then yes I would say mange.

Sorry for the 2nd graphic pic but this is a coyote with mange.

They have mange in degrees, just like dogs, except coyotes don’t get doctored. Your example Paul, could very well have mange. I’ve killed several with severe mange and they are some sick looking puppies, no pun intended.

Pretty skinny tail even for summer

Yes, that is mange.

Transitional coats are tough for me to get a good read on…. Honestly, coyotes with fur in any condition other than Prime usually look pretty rough to me….

I’m inclined to agree with glunt, but I’m curious whether there’s a chance that coyote of Paul’s is just a bit damp?

Looks like a sunny day, but that’s some high grass, as if well-watered…

Definitely mangy. They don’t lose that much hair on their tails, even in the summertime.

Looks a little fuzzier than a mangy yote I saw last weekend... So I'm saying yes. That said, I'm no expert and didnt stay at a holiday inn express last night, so take this comment with a grain of salt!

Not sure might just be a thin summer coat. This old boy had mange.

Paul's looks like mange to me...and T-roy. Never seen a rat tailed coyote without mange. Miserable looking critters when they have it. Arrowed one once and almost hated to pick the pass-thru up and take it to the river for a good cleaning

Was hanging a stand downwind of a good beaver dam crossing in Saskatchewan in the mid 80s ,it was -20 and of course the pond was frozen solid and absolutely the most pitiful coyote comes walking across the dam. Not a hair on his body and skin as pink as a newborn baby.Even I felt sorry for him. This was mid November ,bet he never made it thru till spring.

No doubt mange. Even in summer a healthy coyote will have fur covering his entire body. Patches of fur completely gone is mange.
