I've got a lodge based moose hunt in Alberta the last few days of September and first week of October this fall. I'm looking for advice for which set of KUIU rain gear would be best for this hunt and would then be used mostly for whitetail hunting in Missouri and Kentucky. I'd like to hear advice on any other gear that would be helpful on this hunt as well. Thanks!

I've used both the Chugach and the Kutana. Both are the lightest versions with no insulation. The Chugach was great and provided years of service. The Kutana is better, made of better materials and should last a very long time. It is worth spending the extra money on the best quality. I think there is a sale going on right now.

I where the kutana set under my outer layer when hunting whitetails in the rain. Having the light weight set allows you to wear something under it and over it to meet your needs. Like all good rain gear, it's not overly quiet but under a fleece set and in the rain, its quiet enough.

I love my Chugach. The sale was tempting to pick up the Yukon jacket, but then I remembered I don't have FU money.....

I gave Yukon and Chugach. I highly recommend the Chugach, but quite honestly if I was buying today I’d probably get the Kutana. I think you can’t go wrong with either though honestly.

Just a thought, what does your outfitter recommend?

Bought a Chugach jacket back in about 2016 and only give it a few days use a year because I baby it as it’s my “expensive rain gear.” I loved it until last year when it started leaking on me quite a bit. It feels like “we’ll it’s 6 years old,” but in reality I doubt I wore it for a months time in those years so that’s a downer.

I used the Chugach jacket on a AK moose hunt last year and have no complaints. I wore Simms G3 breathable chest waders everyday so the bottoms were not needed.

I have the chugach, Yukon and some first light seak. To me the seak is the quietest. But if it’s raining it shouldn’t matter.

I’ve got Chugach and Yukon and have worn both extensively. For a moose hunt I’d definitely go with Yukon since it holds up better in brush and seems a little more waterproof.
