The list is out a little ahead of schedule. I'm curious to those that have gotten these tags before. What number were you and when did you get the email/call? It wouldn't hurt to say if you were on the elk combo or the big game combo list as well. Thanks! Edit* maybe I should have called it the "MT Alternate List."

I’m on the elk combo list at # 35. Yee haw. Surely 35 guys drew other states and turned in tags. Fingers crossed. My buddy is 234.

You'll definitely get one at #35 I'd think. They'll have you one ready in the first round at the first of August. I'm #202 on your list.
I wonder how many were on the big game combo list Anyone who is on it want to tell how many there were?

I was on the elk combo last year in the low 200s didn’t get a call. This year I decided to do big game combo list… I’m sitting at 1954/2474 lol

Finn, I’m 478. I expect to get an elk tag. I read somewhere that there over 700-800 elk tags returned each year.

I'm #83 for the elk combo tag which should be good! When I called and asked they said there were about 150 licenses returned last year and they resell them up to the last two weeks of season. A lot of guys turn them down this late so they made it to around #250 on the alternate list. Good luck!

Yeah I don’t think people are willing to return tags like they used to… Blood- I wouldn’t bank on pulling a returned tag at #478

How do they determine where you are on the list?

They randomize it after the app period and then you have a position on that list from your draw number.
There were 1359 on the elk combination license list this year. I'm not sure about the big game combo number.

It appears they're releasing numbers on mondays so hopefully then we'll see the lists diminish greatly.

So is there a penalty if you draw a tag but then don’t use it? I.e, if I put in for say moose and elk and draw both, can you turn in the elk with no penalty?

You can get an 80% refund if turned in by August 1. 50% if turned in before your hunts start date. 90% for medical emergency or immediate family member death. You always lose your preference or bonus points used to obtain the tag.
