Congratulations Tavis, the cane shaft and obsidian point is just awesome but with the added difficulty of a self bow. Anything taken with that equipment really shows your dedication and skill

For the several that have asked.

No, I didn’t make the bow or arrow.

The bow was made by Jake Powell from Colorado. He is one of the greatest hunters most will never hear of. It was his backup bow when he shot his brown bear with a self bow a few years back. He gave it to me the year after he shot his brown bear. I finished it out with the copperhead skins on the back, the leather on the grip and the string.

The arrow was made by Ryan Gill (Hunt Primative). He makes the finest primative hunting arrows available. Although I have made a lot of wood arrows and stone points over the years, I wanted the absolute best I could get to hunt with. His arrows and points are as close to perfect as I could imagine.

The arrow shafts are river cane and they spin perfectly. His obsidian and flint points are perfectly matched and sharpened the right way to be scary sharp and effective for hunting..

I got 6 arrows with stone points and they varied about 20 grains in total arrow weight. I also got 6 practice arrows with steel field points. They spined and shot off that bow perfectly. I practiced with them a lot before that antelope hunt and was confident to 25 yards.

I shot that antelope at about 10 yards. He made it about 50 before crashing.
