I’m sure most of us who have been on a lion chase would jump at the chance to go again if the cost wasn’t a factor, I know I would even though I was able to go on 3 chases with Lyle Wilmarth under one hunt until I killed this cat with my recurve in 2001.
I had a life size mount done by Bear Tracks taxidermy. Last time I looked the hunt alone would cost what I paid for both.
Well I built a new house and there wasn’t a good place for me to properly display my lion so Dave Skiff (Bear Tracks) remounted it for me.
Next best thing!
Looks good
I like the new habitat better!
Wow that new mount really pops.
That’s a good mount, not everyone can get a cat right.
I’m not sure which one I like better ? I love them both !!
Love the remount! I really regret not doing something like that with my big cat I got back in the 90’s…. Just did a rug on a Booner :-(
Very nice, Dave! Agree with drycreek. Cats are tricky to get right. Your’s looks awesome! Did he redo the entire mount, or just the rock base?
Both are great but love the remount!

Thanks, I really like how it turned out. Still it would be fun to go on another chase.
Troy he cleaned and groomed the fur along fabricating the rock base. Btw, I like the way you had your lion mounted, very nice!
Tavis, rugs are nice but it’s hard to beat life size on a big lion. Now you have a good reason to kill another one!
Just took my daughter-in-laws lion to Dave. He’s an old friend and hunting buddy. I’ve seen some nice looking cats he’s done and yours looks like one of them.
Both look like they’re alive. Awesome job!
Nice! I would have never thought of changing the mount to fit the house. Great idea and great job to the taxidermist!
Ya gotta be happy for sure!
Dang nice,
Robb
Nice! I have a huge bobcat mounted looking down. But now it's in a room with only 8 feet ceilings. I wish I could have it's head looking straight out instead of down. Wonder if that is possible for taxi to change? The mount is about 10 years old.
Nothing on the mount itself was changed, was it? Looks like just the base got swapped out.
Nice work either way. How much does a cat that size weigh?
Looks awesome. It’s on my list.
Looks like a new base. I like that base better then the first but the taxi did not have access to the habitat material back when the first base was done. Some real nice rock panels etc... available now. Much nicer picture and Nice taxidermy work too. Big Kitty! Jim
Thanks for the comments, one of my favorite mounts.
I probably misspoke when I said “remounted”. The original mount was done in 2001 and there was nothing I wanted changed or could be with a mount that old. However, Dave did an excellent job cleaning and grooming the fur prior to us putting it up.
Since I wanted to mount it on the wall I had a choice between plaster or foam. Dave is an artist when it comes to his bases and I could have gone either way and I’m sure it would have looked great. I went with the fabricated foam on osb board for weight.
On the original mount I wanted the lion coming off a log. The base had recessed wheels and I could roll it around or remove them and put it on the soffits above my great room. (As shown). For the new location I wanted to mount it on the wall thus the “remount”.
Corax_latrans we didn’t weigh the lion. We let loose on him in the morning and I killed him around 4pm. He had an empty stomach although we found several lion kills that week. He was a good size male.
