Start tomorrow. Picked the dreaded tank with no cell coverage and terrible visibility. Going to be a long day. Or maybe not 2 years ago started on this tank and dead goat in two hours. Doubt that happens again though.
^^^ when it's the one and only antelope (buck) tag you've ever drawn and with more than 10 bonus points that is also out of state, not gonna waste it trying to shoot it with a bow...
I am putting my money on Boggs being the first he is up in MT and is sending me pictures of good bucks near his water hole and sounds like next nearest water hole is a ways. I would not be surprised though if a bowsiter or two get one tomorrow with at least a few seasons opening. Brad/bowaddict said he would cover my bet if anyone wants to but money on the first one. ;)
Head out Wednesday and will be hunting around Trinidad, CO. Been following forecasts and doesn't look like there's been a ton of rain lately, but I know conditions on the ground can be different than what Yahoo weather shows. Anyone have any insight on the conditions? Either way, I'll be in a blind in a few days givin' 'em hell.
I use National Weather Service. Use the link, enter the nearest town then you can click on the map and get local data from the nearest weather station. I’m in the middle of nowhere Nevada right now, 35 north of Gerlach, and can get current conditions from a weather station 8 miles south of me, plus the site will provide a fairly accurate forecast for that specific area on the map.
A couple of weeks ago I made the mistake of using weather.com prior to leaving for a cow elk hunt and that forecast showed no rain but I got 2” the first 3 days. National Weather Service had 40% chance on their site for one day and 80% for the next….
Good luck to all those who are pronghorn hunting this year. I was just looking at some pics from last year in Wyoming and I kept thinking how nice it would be to be hunting them this year .
Tried my normal spot and stalk spot this morning….a bust! There is the most green grass I think I have ever seen in August in central WY this year. Antelope are spread all over creation……
Montana! Second time to Montana with Eric and second time I’ve filled a tag, first an elk now a pronghorn. Montana has been pretty good to this hillbilly from southwest Missouri
Here’s Marks video… I thought it was pretty cool. Not much audio, just good video catch. If someone at a computer wants to paste it for quick view, please do.
The antelope bested me again. Spent 45 hours over three days in a blind. Had a decent buck come in two hours into my first sit. He drank at 37 yards and was very slightly quartering to so I held off thinking it was early and I’d have another chance. He was the only goat that showed up over the three days. He may have been the only goat that showed up, but he wasn’t the only critter that paid me a visit…
Jason, hopefully you at least filled your rattler tag! Thats too close for comfort there. Im not at all a fan of snakes, and that blind sure aint big enough for him to share.
BEG- pics like that scare the hell outta me! Snakes seem to love me, but the feeling isn't mutual. After not seeing one for several years I stupidly said "Man, I wish I could see a rattle snake. I've never seen one." Well... I've gotten my wish ever since. I've almost stepped on two (and they were NOT happy about it), had one six inches in front of my face while crawling up a steep hill on all fours, and had several other way-too-close encounters with them too.
Congrats everyone, maybe some day I'll get out there to hunt them with my son. I've gotten a few with the camera. Beautiful animals. Good luck to everyone chasing them.
Dennis, I was using G5 Deadmeat 100 grain broadhead. I have been using them for the last 3 years and had very good luck with them on deer, antelope and bear.
