Son’s first archery muley
Mule Deer
I had an enjoyable Saturday helping my son pack out his first archery mule deer buck. Blaine headed out a week before the season (probably to get out of work on our farm in MO) to scout the unit.
His plan came together this morning with a nice 40 yard shot followed by a sparse blood trail. We pretended like we were the African trackers we saw in action earlier this year. We kept saying how we wish we just had one of them with us. In the end we found the buck bedded and dead within 250 yards. I couldn’t be happier for Blaine and I know he sure is proud too.

Thanks! Yes, he filmed the entire week leading up to the hunt, time in camp, scouting and more. I’m sure he will chime in soon. I’m packing my camp stuff now and am going to fly home tomorrow. He gets the long drive with all the gear, tents, coolers, etc..

This was a hunt that I was really looking forward to ever since we found out that I drew the tag. Having the opportunity to come out a week before the season started, gave me plenty of time to experience the area in an unpressured state which made scouting for this hunt very peaceful and enjoyable.
Getting to spend the last few days up here with my dad, and having him there alongside me when we first walked up on this dream come true, made the entire experience even more special and memorable.
I’ll make a video of the hunt shortly after I return to Missouri!
