Our first buck of the year! What’s it score, gross typical? We haven’t scored it yet. Should be doing it this evening I think. This is Blake’s 4th buck with us.

Thanks for the guesses so far guys! Appreciate it.

Man, I wish score didn’t matter but for some reason people pay more for the chance at a higher scoring deer, weird? I’ve even heard of people waiting years to draw a tag in a unit where they could possibly get a higher scoring, older age class deer?

I know it should never be the measurement of the total success of your hunt but it’s sure more fun to get a big one! (Done legally and ethically of course.)

Score coming soon for those who care, it’s just for fun.

Mike, can you post up Blake's bucks from the other three years?

Even if you don’t care what it scores. The score is by far how we classify size/quality. If you tell someone you got a 5x5 Muley that could be anything from 130” too 230”.

We were all pretty surprised that it came out any less than 180, and that was with the antlers in our hands! You can see our preliminary guesses in the top corner. I guess we suck at estimating scores sometimes.

But a great deer nonetheless! Who cares about score anyway, right?! Haha

Thanks again for all the guesses. Bowboy and molsonarcher nailed it at 174, with a few others very close or within their range of score.

Yep, shit happens. Bit of a long bomb, deer standing, launch, whack, four hooves in the air! The Rage broadhead really performed well though, the tip and blades were still sharp.

From: Rackmastr

I'd have guessed more just given the size of the bucks you get up there. Great buck though regardless of score like you said. Looking forward to what the season brings you guys up there this year Mike!

From: Treeline

Awesome buck!

That one is a lot tougher without some more angles to see what’s going on. Looks like a mid 190’s gross and might stick in the 190’s as a NT.

So it was a poke and a hope, eh? That's a shame. I'm glad it worked out, but I hope the hunter knows he may not be so lucky next time. I don't think I would have posted that skull shot pic.

Jeepers those are nice bucks!! The 2nd buck 188 gross? I can think of zero reasons not to post the skull pic and happy you did. Very interesting to see. Congrats on a couple whoppers Mike.

29-Aug-23
Classic Grey Ghost troll comment, meant only to inflame the thread, start an argument, and put the attention on him.

Now back to reality. I guess long bomb wasn’t the proper term to use. Blake practises frequently out to very long distances and he is quite capable of making a long shot under high pressure situations. He took a careful, calculated shot with a range found distance and it didn’t hit where he was aiming. “We’ve all been there”, someone once said…

Love to have some more guesses on the heavy buck? He’s only 21 inches outside spread.

From: Bigfoot

Two of us looking at the buck. Circumferences 45-48ish. Land closer to 48. Gross score - 187/191.

Treeline/Tavis with the gross score win at mid 190’s and MA-PAdeerslayer/Nick winning the bonus mass question with a guess of 46 inches, 45 3/8 total if my math is correct? Hooray!!

We should have had a bonus question of what did the antlers weigh?! 9 lbs 12 oz with a small skull cap. Weigh a set of big antlers yourself and you’ll see how amazing that number is, an incredible deer. We are very fortunate to be able to hunt them.

Thank you to all participants of the “What’s it score?” game here on bowsite. Hopefully more to come…

30-Aug-23
Ryan and Charly Petersen were the lucky hunters, Ryan made the initial shot but it was a bit off and they had to try and get another arrow in him with another stalk. Dad, Charly was put as a spotter, blocker in case it didn’t work out. It didn’t and the deer went unexpectedly right to Charly. Charly was on a brush pile spotting with regrowth all around him. The deer suddenly popped up 10 yds away, Charly had no time to get his release out so he used his bare fingers at 10 yds! Made a great hit and down he the deer went. (Charly had an open tag too.)

Gray ghost isn't trolling .. you posted it was along bomb and that it was shot in the head..... the hunter was very lucky and my guess should not have even taken the shot. It was a shoot and hope situation and he got lucky as hell. People need to learn to pass on a shot no matter how bad they want the animal or if they have no time left to hunt.

03-Sep-23
Yep, Blake got lucky.
