Here is my daughter Brooke with her first elk kill! A public land bull with a bow. We called it into 18 yds with some cow calls on Aug 29th.

Proud Dad moment!
She had been sitting stands by herself every evening for 4 days and had passed on 2 different cow elk at under 25 yds. I told her she better shoot a cow or she probably won’t get an elk at all since she had to get back to school. She said it just didn’t excite her so she didn’t want to shoot. I said, fair enough, then we better do some hiking and calling and hopefully bugle in a bull. I had a big, river valley in mind to go hunt and Brooke said she was up for it and was willing to get up at 5 am to give it a good days hunt. Now what 16 yr old girl will get out of bed on a summer day to go hunt with her dad? Not many I bet, I was so happy just to get out and really hunt, not sit a stand. (I had also been sitting a stand every evening with my 14 yr old son trying to get him an elk, he was not up for a 5 am wake up call.)

The pack our crew, son Tyler, Brooke and my wife Jen.

Jen had the heaviest load at this point, 80+ lbs and Jen is tough as nails but that was before the uphill portion of the pack out. We ended up stashing the head and and doing another load the next day. More family fun!
Brooke packed out a solid 60 lbs, more than half her body weight for a couple of jungly, sweaty, tough miles with a man’s pack frame, very uncomfortable. She said it was the toughest hike she had ever done. She’ll remember it all her life I bet. Tyler had a big load too on another awkward, man’s frame pack with no chest strap. Gotta upgrade some gear, dang it.

Some stand hunting on a field edge. We had cow elk within range a few times but the wind was shifty and dead quiet, couldn’t get a shot off, so frustrating.

I focus on helping my family have some fun hunting, and maybe even get something, the first week or so of the season, Aug 25 to about Sept 1. My guides are all focused on our American clients.

Thanks Scott! I guess it is a pretty cool pic. Thanks for the enthusiasm everyone. It’s actually a lot of work to get all 4 bows set up, get them out shooting, make sure everyone has good enough clothes, binocs, range finder, rain gear, etc, etc. wears a guy out, would be so much easier to just focus on myself or even guiding my hunters, that would be easier! Haha
