Missing center fiber.
I would value the input on a new sight... Been a MBG user for years, but last 2 of 3 I have had issues with the fiber optic strands being ripped/ torn from the pins. This is from regular use in the fields or woods. I think grasses or twigs get in there and cause this. I sent in for repair last time and the turnaround was not acceptable, excuse was they get busy this time of year... I want one that WILL NOT BREAK, or has better protection of the pins/ strands, Thanks for the help.

Feel like the Spot Hogg Hunter I had was a very tough site. I think the pins were set deeper which would lessen the chance of that kind of breakage.

But I think you should change the way you carry your bow. If you're getting stuff inside your site housing snapping fibres that would just freak me right out. Banging around on your pins etc. I moved to a pack where I could strap the bow onto the back after hunting elk in thick country and having branches in everything, and coming out of the bush with half my arrows missing etc. I can release my bow without taking pack off, and it protects my bow while I walk around. Your broken pins are the symptom of a problem that needs addressing IMO.

Spot Hogg Grinder has been a very good sight for me. I have used it on two bows for probably 10 years at this point with zero trouble. I also decided to spend the money and put one on my son’s youth bow just because of its toughness and it has proven to be a good choice yet again.

Thanks guys, I carry by the cables and or string at times and yes it puts the sight in the rough, its just the way I do it. Sometimes just setting it down stabilizer- sight first and leaning it on my leg can put it in harms way. I think I'll be looking hard at the Spot Hogs and appreciate the input. Ern

Spot Hogg

I have 3 spot hoggs. Very tough sights, a bit heavy but very sturdy and hold up to all my abuse.

I had a spot Hogg that did exactly like you described and had the fiber optic ripped out of the pin as well. From what I’ve seen, that fiber optic design is pretty standard to all sights. I haven’t gotten one of the covers, but they would be a big help. I am just paranoid about having a cover on my sight and either not having time or forgetting to take it off…

I always carry mine over my shoulders, with my stabilizer on one side of my head and the sight in the other, resting the rest/handle area across my shoulders/neck. I think that does wonders for protecting it as compared to dragging it through the brush. Actually, when my fiber optic got ripped out of the pin it was when I was away for a few seasons for work and my dad was using my bow since he has the same draw length, so I’m not certain how it even happened. That said, it hasn’t ever happened to me carrying it the way I carry it, and I am HARD on equipment.

Truglo, you know the plastic ones at cabelas. Ya those never break.

Cant go wrong with an HHA or a Spott Hogg!

There is not a sight made that is impervious to the misuse you described, but Spot Hogg is as tough as I have found.

Learn how to replace the fiber optics on your own sight. I swap out the fiber in SH's every ~5 years or so. Takes about 15-20 minutes on my 7-pin sight.

I have used a cover over my sight but usually only when on the move and not expecting to see any animals. And I did take the sight apart and used what was left of the fiber to get it back in working order.

I use the cover...along with a string cover, but only when my bow is strapped to my backpack. When the bow is in my hands...I tend to be very careful when walking. Raise it over my head when necessary. I've been shooting MBG sights for many years and have yet to break a fiber. Hope I didn't just jinx myself!

I've been using this one pretty much all the time now... hard to find but the fiber is big and bright if your eyes are shytty like mine and it's super sturdy I had one and Kevin Spicer and Demobowhunter were nice enough to give me the ones they had lying around...

Currently my vote and sight is Arxos by Dialed Archery.

A few of the standout features that I like are the fiber is within the sight post. The gear is completely enclosed, free from dirt and debris. The Mag is changeable for different pin sizes.

I did crawl around New Mexico for a week, laying the bow down quite a bit and there were zero issues with this sight.

I’m looking forward to hunting Whitetails with it to see how the pins perform at prime time.

I have axle armour tech sights, no exposed fibers, I noticed on the new ones the fibers are exposed, so spot Hogg all the way

not for everyone but this is the type of sight i use.

probably not quite as accurate as some shown here but really "bomb proof."

The most bomb proof made sights in my opinion are made by Spot Hogg.

Hard to beat Spot Hogg for durability IMO. That said I have broken a fiber on one once. Things happen. I’m currently shooting an Option sight, and it was a difficult decision for me to get away from Spot Hogg mainly due to my opinion of their durability.

I’m kinda surprised to hear guys say Accell Armortech, I had one on a bow for a summer and hated it, never even hunted with it. To each his own though…

I had MBG sights fail twice on me on back to back fly in Alaska hunts. They stuck by their warranty, but that doesn’t do much good when you’re on Kodiak trying to move your slider.

I made the switch to Spot Hogg after the 2nd trip and it certainly seems bombproof. The only drawback I’ve noticed is it is certainly heavier and when compared to the MBG, the pins are not as bright.

Ern, you could run a slow cure 2 part clear epoxy on the fibers in the sight. It would still allow them to collect the light, but protect them from being pulled out. Hope you’re doing well buddy.
