I took this bear Friday evening in NY state. I was set up on the edge of a large cornfield that had quite a bit of sign and had sat there 4 evenings and one morning without a sighting from the stand, but I did see three bears while entering or exiting my setup. I got back in there early friday evening and settled in. About 20-30 minutes before dark I saw the outline of a large bear a few rows back in the corn. He cautiously approached an opening in the field and crossed at about 70 yards. I was hoping he would follow the edge of the field around to me but he ended up reversing course and came back along the opposite side of the opening. He started working down the opposite edge and i was able to get a range on him at 52 yards. I was confident at that distance and took the shot. He made it about 90 yards back into the corn and expired. After getting him out we weighed him on the farmers grain scale and he was 370 field dressed, estimated live weight of 432.
Bowtech Realm SR 6 at 70 pounds VAP SS 250 spine arrows and Grim Reaper Carni-four.

Great bear, and I really like the picture - the subject, the setting and background, the lighting, the natural dirt on the bear, etc. All exceptional and memorable... congratulations on all of it!

Thanks again everyone! Looking forward to seeing what he tapes out at in a few months. I also have to say the NY bear check in process is so much more convenient than PA or NJ. Answer 5 questions online and you are done. No check stations or warden meetings to arrange.

That’s pretty low-key, alright… When I looked at the CO regs, I started to wonder how they ‘re selling any tags. Show up within 5 days at one of none-too-many offices, with head & hide and all meat processed for human consumption… It was looking like a pretty significant undertaking just to check in….
A project like that could take a pretty huge bite out of a deer or Elk trip….

That is a real nice bear! Do you have to send in a tooth so the Natural Resource people can age it?
From: Smtn10PT
18-Oct-23
The DEC is supposed to send a tooth collection packet, if you remove a tooth and send it in for them to age you get a patch. Sounds like its recommended but not a legal requirement. I havent received anything in the mail yet.

Pyrannah, I coated that piece of backstrap with a dry rub and let it sit in a ziplock bag in my fridge for two days. I cooked it on my pellet grill at 350 until the internal temp got to 163.
