The fun is just starting for you and your wife!

I used to do that too. Now I take mine to Matt at Rocky Mountain Headhunters. Much better final product than boiling, and a hell of a lot less smell and goo to deal with.

Word of advice- don't over boil it or bones will come apart. Also, be really careful when you pressure wash it so you don't blow out the delicate thingies in the nasal cavities.

I did that. Once. "She Who Must Be Obeyed" was not amused.

Just a FYI for the future. I Just soaked my rack outside in a cooler then used a power washer. Very cool.

She probably a little more understanding since it is our daughter's elk. But I have done several euros in the kitchen before she understanding and understands who she married.

I use the BBQ grill to simmer the big ones…..using a big canning pot or roaster filled with the skull or skull plate in water/Dawn dish detergent up to the antlers.

Yeah, that wouldn't fly in my house. Heck, I wouldn't even want to smell that crap. I'll stick with my turkey fryer outdoors.

The Coleman stove in the garage works just fine.

You just might be a redneck if ? :>))))

Hey it’s for your daughter. Anything goes

From: Brian M.

I did it once with a WT skull on the wood stove. I think we smelled it for about a week. I usually maceration, but it had to be done in short order so I could mount it for my son for Christmas.

I also would skin skunks in the basement, until I blew up a scent gland while pulling the tail bone. Wife not happy either time, lol.

Bake just soak those ivories in peroxide for a few minutes then scrape off the tissue with a knife. They come out clean.

No way I’d do that in my house.

From: Grey Ghost

My father used to carry his ivories around in his pocket, with a few coins for several weeks, after he removed and scraped them as clean as possible. No boiling or soaking involved. Tumbling around in his pocket with coins polished them right up with no color loss.

I’ve always simmered and scraped mine. Now I’ve have a nice collection of both his and mine. My father’s have retained more color than mine.

My old man was right.

I have exposed my wife to SO many different things when it comes to Critters other than the meat. She's an Angel.. One time I "thought" I wanted a Boar fully mounted (Real biggie that had charged me 6 times trying to kill me b/4 I arrowed him). Anyway, she comes in from the freezer (in the garage) & say's "well that was a surprise" how you gonna cook that ugly ass thing? THEN she say's "that WILL NOT EVER be in the house".. Only thing she put a stop too.

t-roy, I never went that far. Finally learned my lesson after the third vehicle I bought with consulting. In hindsight, I will say that I do wish I had bought one particular piece of ground without her consent. Would’ve been worth the hell.

Yep, that's what I do.

From: Stoneman

JTreeman nailed it. I did a bull moose with an aquarium heater sous vide technique and the meat, cartilage, basically all tissue just sluffed off after about 10 days. Power wash and whiten. Not the most pleasant process but better than simmering on the stove or cooker.

I would share my pass word with her ;)

Fun story about get on to someone's phone, several years ago when I spent time on that other archery talk forum. I left my phone on a bench I was sitting at with some buddies to walk over to outhouse. My buddy Justin got on to said forum and started a thread from my account about how was at a 3D shoot and really need to poop and didn't know what do since I was in middle of tournament. I did not know until later.
