I will have 5 points if I decide to purchase before October 31 or I lose the 4 I have. I was going to just walk away from my points as I hate the point creep but thinking maybe I should buy the 1 to make 5 and try to use them next fall. Any recommendations for an archery hunt (Im in good physical condition) where there is a solid opportunity for 300 class bulls? Thanks for your feedback.

You might get a general tag with 5 points, I would buy a point and go for that if if was me. With the gen tags going to regional that may get you in one of the regions.

Wyoming’s Finest outfitters. 4of us went and all 4 guys killed great bulls.

Get the point and at that many you can get a general and have options. Every year there are bulls 300' killed on the general. If you are going archery the general archery hunt in WY is better than a lot of mid tier limited archery hunts in other states.

With the regional splits, you may as well just let your points go. Unless in the Eastern Region, point creep will most like increase significantly.

Why would you walk away from 4 points? I get you aren’t gonna get up to the blue chip stuff, but lots of good hunting to be had with lesser points/units.

Or if you don’t want to hunt just yet, let them ride, buy them and one day you will figure out you want to hunt and you have the points. If you quit now you won’t have them when you realize you want them.

I 100% agree if you had 4 points for sheep or goats or something you should probably walk away, but decent elk tags can be had and you are almost there! Good luck.

You may barely have enough points to guarantee a general tag for 2024. Good luck, WY is quality elk hunting.

Unless you plan on not hunting elk any longer you should definitely buy the point.

How much are you willing to spend on an outfitter? If you are willing to drop $8k - $10k you can probably meet your goal and dra win 2024 or 2025

Look at a type 9 unit 37 tag. Fun hunt with plenty of opportunity for a 300

This reminds me, I need to buy my point.

I am at the exact same points as you are. Due to my corneal transplant issues, I have to keep to put off hunts. Elk is on my list one day so I am sticking with it

If it was sheep etc I would be out, but I am still in for elk and mule deer.

Don’t think 37 tag on the forest is a great tag. Maybe outfitter on private. Have had some good hunts on that tag and some no elk efforts.

So you didn’t buy a point last year? You could have 6 going into next years draw. That’d be huge

@jethro, no I didn't buy a point last year....I thought I was sticking with New Mexico and planned to let my Wyoming hunt fall by the wayside.

Unless finances are that hard up. Always get the points. States are always changing. Nobody knows what the future will be like. But if you need them and don't have them, nothing you can do about it.
