Thanks! I read that stuff but it's hard to know what that means without being familiar with the park. I am going to try to call them.

Open, but you can’t go up and over so it’s pretty boring this time of year.

Trail ridge rd closed in October. One time I was headed to an elk camp right on the west side of the Park in Sept and didn't check. Got up to the gate about 10PM and an early snow had it closed. Had to go back and take the long way around.

Assuming you arecoming in from East/Estes side and mostly wanting to see some elk you will be able to drive around Moraine Park, Beaver Meadows, West Horseshoe areas. It is not the above treeline parts of RMNP that will all be closed. Also watch the weather I know snow is expected into the weekend and that can close large areas temporarily. You pay unless you get in earlier before they open the toll booths. I forgot the time that is. No reservation required this time of year. Basically you can drive around in red area and possibly the purple.

Lots of elk should be in and around Estes as well. Also in Big Thompson Canyon/Hwy 34 between Loveland and Estes good chance of see some Big Horn Ram down low near the river/road.
