Looks like it's been a few years since anyone posted a question, but with at least a couple of states now being able to harvest wolves (and Canada), does anyone have any recommendations for ARCHERY wolf outfitters? Thanks

That’s a tough one. Even with the gun and even in Alaska that’s not an easy hunt. If I were going to archery hunt for wolves, it would be over a carcass from a stand.

There was a guy in Atlin, BC that hunted wolves out of tree houses. You went up in the house and stayed till the wolves came to bait. May have to stay there several days. That might be a good way to get one with a bow. Dudes name was Guy Atilla, don't know if he's still around.

Or several weeks. Like elk wolves tend to make a loop through their territory which can take more than a week.

The Atlin outfitter’s name was Guy Antilla. Don’t know if he is still in business.

I sat I in a blind in Alaska several years ago, on a salmon stream . The intended target was grizzly feeding on salmon. The outfitter advised me to get a wolf tag as they sometimes come to feed on salmon. Sure enough two wolves walked along the far bank of the stream and I arrowed one at 30 yards. It was August so the hide was not great. It’s not a hunt I’d recommend for wolf. I got lucky.

Check with Cory Grant at All Terrian Bear Hunts. He offers wolf hunts and I know he has had guys take them with archery.

Check into WFO Bearhunts here in Ontario They do wolf hunts from December - March. You'll have to see if they offer archery... I'm pretty sure Tim Well hunted through them with his bow at one time.

GW Holdings has not offered archery but said they could offer. Didn't want to be client #1 for high sticker price.

Just noticed this thread. We can get you on a pack of wolves.... We have killed wolves by Compound and Crossbow. ***We have been a sponsor of Bowsite since 2015. We actually have camera's on Bear / Deer Bait sites from April to December. We know where the most wolf activity is, letting us focus on certain baits.

I had a hunter last week that saw 1 black wolf and 2 grey wolves. He booked his hunt over a year ago.

I can do a hunt for you if you have not picked an outfitter yet. Thx Bou Bound and Alex for mentioning us. Highlife is right, we were not going to be doing wolf hunts anymore but we can do this hunt for you. The CITIES permit has to be applied for within 8 months of your hunt. I can give you the info to apply.

I have been involved in wolf hunts since 1974. Involved in many kills. Can do a package according to your needs. 1-807-221-9793

*** this picture shows how close I can get you. See treestands in background of first pic?

Spike is each province of Canada different on issuing cities? Just curious as to why it takes so long? I was lucky on a bear hunt in BC and was able to shoot one and according to the outfitter got lucky on that they could issue me a Cities in 2 days. We had to drive 3 hrs fo pick it up but we're able to get it.

Thanks Welka... Rule change in 2022. Once you apply, you will have it within a month. CITIES have an 8 month expiry. So dont apply till closer to hunt. Delivered to your door or you can have it sent to your Outfitter you are hunting with. Its free of charge to applicant. Don't know what other provinces have as a timeline for receiving CITIES after you apply. Its actually nice to have the CITIES when you arrive for a wolf hunt. *** Also, wolf hunters in Ontario need an export, costs about $7.00. As soon as you tag a wolf in Ontario, can go to Ministry and export permit is over the counter. I help with CITIES but you apply. I pick up export permits for our hunters same day "over the counter". What I do is phone in info, then pick up in 2 hours.

When you arrive into Ontario with a CITIES, you will have a copy for the Canadian Customs, one for the US Customs and a 3rd copy is yours. If you are lucky to get a wolf, you will have to stop on the way home at the Canadian Customs where they will stamp all 3 copies of the CITIES. They then keep their copy. Then you will have to hand in the copy that is for the US customs when you enter into US. Your copy you should always keep safe if ever someone asks to see it, such as USFW Service some time down the line. If you do not get a wolf it just goes past the expiry date and is then invalid. The custom stamp validates the permit.

Who was the guy doing barnyard bait hunts for wolves. Archery set ups in barns and out building under yard lights.

Spike Buck... What percent of your wolf hunters are successful?

From: spike buck
12-Jan-24
Success on wolf depends mostly on luck and alot of patience on the part of the hunter... We had 1 hunter so far this year 2024. he saw a Black Wolf and 2 Grey Wolves. Had a clear shot at 70 yards and missed. Fall 2022 we had 2 wolf only and 2 Bear / Wolf combo and we killed 2 wolves. Wolf / Bear combo hunters were dividing their time between both animals. Last winter 2023 March, 3 hunters 1 wolf. Hunters during winter 2023 hunted in -35 F. Was a tough hunt. My baits I hunt have lots of wolf sign at each one of them, but wolves might not show themselves for 1 reason or another. *** Wolves are the smartest animals wandering in our forests in NW Ontario. But they do make mistakes. *** Also, I am not a trapper, ALL wolves in my camp photos are hunted, not trapped.

Mule Power was correct on wolves pattern. For example, we have 3 wolves in one pack, hitting one bait now. Along with a lone wolf. Lone wolf regularly visits. Pack of 3 will come into the bait regularly for 2 maybe 3 days. Then they continue on their circuit. Circuit might be many miles 4 to 8 days, depending on prey population. But they will always show back at my bait site. *** Its a waiting game...

You may want to give Colin Paly with Northern Edge Outfitters in Thorhild AB. He does wolf hunts. We heard them howl all 6nights when we were bear hunting. A buddy shot one on bait at 60yds with a rifle. Didn't recover it though. If he says yes, i wouldn't hesitate to go.
