A buddy and I have waited 7 years since our last high country deer hunt in hopes of a better unit by adding more points. Any direction would be much appreciated! We're both young, in shape and have the gear required. Please dm me or I would love to chat via phone on tactics, areas, where to find bucks early ect. Thanks

You are several points over any of the toughest to draw archery units. You could draw any. I’d recommend top rut search for a basic knowledge. You may be able to draw a really good rifle tag also. Unit 76 comes to mind as one that is harder to draw but you’d both most likely draw

Wish you luck but also hope no one starts posting honey holes. If someone wants to help send him PMs. If someone gives you good info or you find it yourself keep it quite.

Michael, there were at least 5 archery hunts still out of reach for the OP according to toprut. Still, tons of good options.

The CPW Draw Stats are your friend. There are some decent hunt codes [Rifle] that you could easily use your bow

With 7 points you have a 50% chance of drawing a 4th season tag in a unit that has really good migration through it if there is snow to push them down.
This buck walked by me at 30 yards while I was calling coyotes the weekend after 4th season ended.
I won’t post the unit but if you pm me I can help out.

I appreciate the responses. I figured a tag that took 6 points was something you don’t hunt every year so its not like its someone’s honey hole. I hope nobody drops a bunch of info on the form but as previously stated I’d love to chat via pm and on the phone. I’ve got a few ideas in mind but don’t know enough about mule deer to be sold.

I have 12 points. I think I’d like a late season hunt. The words rut and migration come to mind. I am totally clueless about Colorado hunting. I just decided to start buying deer points one year. They are the only points I have in any state other than my one elk point in Wyoming. I would love a couple suggestions via PM.

It amazes me what passes for a good deer these days. Quite sad actually. The Princess yells at me the other day to look at the big buck in the yard. I looked out and saw a 150". I asked her if she realised that 12 years ago that buck would not have gotten us to raise our binocs to look closer. We continue to define excellence downward in our expectations. And our expectations continue to be met.
Pick some really pretty country and hope to get lucky, the genetics are there.

Pretty much in the same boat as you with 7 mule deer points and looking at archery units to possibly put in for this year. I’m sure we both have a couple of the same units on our short list. Trying to decide if I should look at OnX for a unit that looks like it has the best looking country to hunt or look at draw odds and see what would be the best use of my points. The direction that the CPW seems to be headed with mule deer doesn’t give me the feeling it’s worth while to build too many more points for an archery mule tag

You guys with 6-7 PPs missed out on two or three pretty good DIY archery deer hunts.

I definitely agree with you on that, I have too many elk points too. Wasn’t really trying to build that many points, just drew tags in other states the last few years and CO didn’t fit into the schedule. I have a feeling drawing an archery deer tag that takes 7 points won’t be that much better than one of those 1-3 point units

We used 9 points on an early season rifle hunt this year. Probably won't help you, but in the area we hunted we saw nothing bigger than a mid 150's buck. I ended up shooting a smaller buck but only because it was still in velvet(and it tastes good :)). We did learn a lot more about our preferred elk unit though!!!

^^^Another reason why all we are seeing are 150" bucks.
