I’ve done some all day sits in a ground blind for turkey. But I can’t sit in a tree all day. I’ve got out of my tree stand at 10 am, and then climbed back in it at noon and killed a deer an hour later.

If I’m hunting without other obligations, I’m in the woods. I might be sleeping or I might be in my saddle. I get there before daylight and leave when I can’t see to shoot. I love all day hunting in bow season.

I’ve killed a lot of species of deer midday. Most of my biggest bucks were shot from 11:00am to 1:30pm. This is one of my bucks I shot at 11:20am.

Thats a beauty Bowboy.. And look at all that meat. You should share that with your friends..

I have done several all day sits in the small patch of timber I have permission to hunt. I have seen only a few deer up on their feet in mid-day while actually hunting. Most movement occurs in the first couple of hours in the morning, and the several hours before dark. However, I will get 1 or 2 pictures of big bucks moving through during midday every year. It's usually rut time frame, and it's never predictable. It's also usually when I'm at work, or Christmas/Thanksgiving day when I can't be hunting anyway.

Lot of hunters leave the woods at mid day... I like hunting mid day

I've seen more stories written about mid day big buck movement than I have big bucks during mid day. To me, the rut and weather conditions dictate when I'm gonna sit later/earlier on stand for whitetails. You can't kill one while sitting on the couch at home!

I have a buddy that kills absolute slobs every year and he swears by midday sits. I've not experienced much activity in my neck of the woods midday, but I still sit all day when I get the chance.

When I was younger I hunted all day and killed a lot of bucks mid day. One time I had to stuff a whole lunch time sandwich in my mouth when a buck was coming. It was a deer roast sandwich BTW. I got the buck.

Here’s a Coues Buck I shot attempting to eat my sandwich at 11:30am

This fall, I planned on doing a morning sit and then moving for the PM. At 12:15, I couldn't take it and needed some food. I left everything in the tree, went as fast as I could to the truck. Made 2 sandwiches and put them down as fast as possible. I was back in my stand at 12:55 and text my wife that I was going to sit till dark. I text her at 1:01 telling her I just shot a nice 10 pt. The following hour, I saw another 10pt and 2 other smaller bucks before climbing down to get my deer. Dad always said, get in that tree and sit tight.

Only during the whitetail rut. The other 60 days I hunt deer I’m playing the movement odds for am and pm.

I found it to be torture to hunt the same stand all day and usually my morning stand is not a great stand for the evening. But during the rut I'll hunt my morning stand until noon then head to the tuck and grab a quick sandwich break and then back into another stand by 12:30pm if I'm hunting the same area. Very rarely do I get mid-day movement of bucks.

Bowboy, If that Coues deer was attempting to eat your sandwich, I'd like to know what kind of sandwich it was.....LOL! Both photos are great bucks.....well done.

Never had any luck on my full day sits. Shot several late morning, but not past 10:30 am. I don’t use trail cams much, but when I did have them up, I rarely got any photos of mature bucks mid day. Usually only one per year.

I’ve shot quite a few mid day - I think Timex laid the scenario out well. When there is pressure the deer know it’s a pretty safe time to be up. If it’s an unpressured area more typical morning/evening movement. With that said, only during the rut for me. Like Charlie said - playing the odds.

That is an awesome mule deer, Bowboy!

I hunt a very low pressure area and never really thought about that Todd. Point well made. I have shot very few midday bucks and had very few opportunities or even sightings. When I do sit all day it’s during the rut when activity is high. I definitely don’t torture myself to sit in one spot all day. I will usually change stands if the winds allow me to.

I don't usually hunt mid day, but I have noticed the bigger bucks tend to wait until the sun is high before they move in the mornings.

From: APauls

I've also often found mature bucks to be cruising just a little after sunup there in the rut. Heard a theory that they wait until the does bed up to run the downwind of bedding and that has some sense to it. Then again I've also often run into them right at first light. Seen some mid day for sure, but I've put in a ton of effort there for not a lot of return in my experience.

Mid day has always been productive for me.

My morning stand sites would be bad for evenings. Predominant wind from the southwest would blow straight up to the deer coming down the mountain. During the rut I stay a good portion of every day.
