For what it’s worth my buddy x-bowed a huge black bear ?? about a mile from me.Before anyone gets their panties in a wad he has had shoulder surgery and can’t draw a bow.Turns out SCI scores the bear number 33 in the world regardless of weapon.We have great genetics on the Plateau we have no baiting and archery only for our short season good luck Lewis
Tell your buddy there is now a record book specific for Cross Bows. Might be a World Record as they are relatively new.

20 9/16 if I remember right.He was a brute and he got a full mount on him that is quite impressive Lewis

Certainly no disrespect to your buddy for a great bear. However, I’m pretty certain there is no way a 20 9/16 is the number 33 bear in the b&c book. The minimum for All Time is 21” Awards is 20”.

Congratulations on a great Bear. 20 9/16 is a biggie. I have an even 19" & 18 12/16" with a bow so I can see how excited he would be.

Lewis, you, nor anyone else should ever apologize for taking an animal with a crossbow, or any other *legal* means.
If it's legally taken, and some poor pathetic person has an issue because it was taken with a crossbow, then that is exactly what makes that person a "poor pathetic person ".
So I did a little more looking so I wasn’t a totally wrong asshole.
Photo is from the SCI website. Looks like he will easily be top 10 with crossbow. But nowhere near 33 all weapon. As you can see all 10 archery are bigger, they also have rifle, muzzy, and handgun categories with bigger bears. I could not find an “all weapon” listing. In any case a great bear…
