Well, after my successful but rugged Winter lion hunt, it was obvious to me that it is time for new hunting boots. For the past few years I have been using my trusty Danners. They are still waterproof but the tread is not what it used to be so I am looking for something new. I have an Oregon Elk hunt and deer this year, moose next year, and hope to somehow get in a goat hunt if my finances and body allows. I am looking at either Kennetrek, Crispi, or Danner. Also, trying to decide on boot height (10-12 in) and insulation (400 gr/800gr), etc. Anyone have any suggestions, experiences to share, etc.? Thanks in advance all.

Used Lowa Tibets on my goat hunt last September and those were a great choice IMO. That said, I do not use my Tibets for deer, elk or moose...Lowa Caminos or Renegades instead. All three pairs are uninsulated. Only hunt that I've ever used insulated hiking boots was mountain lion.

Danners run narrow so keep that in mind if you’re switching brands. My last boots were Kenetreks. Absolutely loved them and they lasted longer than I could have ever hoped for. But Kenes aren’t what they were back when I bought those. So my current boots are Schnees Granites. Used them in Wyoming last year. Very comparable to the Kenetrek Mountain Extremes but way less bulky. One thing nice about Schnees is they paid shipping both ways when I needed to exchange for a wider boot and a half size bigger. Very good customer service. They run small. Good luck on your hunts!

I like my Schnee’s Granites for steep rocky country but for less extreme country I prefer the slightly lighter and more flexible Schnee’s Beartooth. Schnee’s fit very similar to Lowa boots; I’ve been wearing both brands in the same size for the past 15 years. Lowas are slightly longer and more true to size but they’re really close.

"Dancers run narrow..."

Is that at the waist or hips?

I've worn Danners and the Lowa and Crispi lasts fit me well if not even better (a bit wider in the forefoot).

The one person to ALWAYS take boot advice from is Matt. Lol

No substitute for trying them on with the socks you plan to wear. Fit is more important than brand-name.

Lowa tibets for goat and such. Done for elk too. Not for moose. I’m not sure one pair of boots will do it for those three species. Given the average type of terrain you’re likely to be hunting.

Meindl USA is worth a look if you need a little wider boot. Their customer service is very helpful in determining the correct size.
