Bachelor Groups
Whitetail Deer

Are the bucks in your area bachelored up? They seem to bachelor up in my area from around late January/early Februaary on...
Just pulled my trail-cam images and got this bachelor group of bucks on March 12th, one still fully crowned, one half racked, and the rest shed... The one shed buck stopped and worked an overhanging limb and scraped with both front legs like it was November...
They are here at our place in Tennessee had 5 together last night Lewis

Don't know of or ever heard of this writer but happen to come across this article about Bachelor Bucks and this observations are totally in tune with my observations and experiences:

Dang, nobody wants to talk about summer bucks...
put my camera out 2 day’s ago.had 5 bucks last night 3 definite shooters! going to be a good year.
I've seen several does with fawns here. More than years past actually, which is nice to see. But I haven't seen any bucks. I will be putting a couple cams out in the next week or so. The bucks around here are nocturnal almost year around. It's frustrating to get some whoppers on cams but never see them in the daytime.
Years ago I had a field of double crop beans the was the food of choice for 16 different bucks that summer. One particular night there were actually 13 of those bucks in the field together that evening. I was able to capture 9 in one good camera frame at the same time. I called it the field of dreams that summer. I’ve never seen that many on the same field night after night since then. I love watching them bachelor groups.

Not a lot of summer pics, but I see these guys going in and out of the corn together. Imagine once it's cut I'll get more pics, but for now they spend a ton of time in there.
Startled these guys yesterday when I opened our front door to let our Lab outside after dinner. The bucks were feasting on apples and pears that started falling.
I think it's going to be an interesting fall.
Milnrick, your my new best friend... LoL
Also, what's up with the buck on the far right? Is his hide messed up or something? I can't tell.
Don't know what's up with that buck. If either Lady Bowhunter or I get lucky we'll be able to figure it out.
I think it's just his long tail swinging to the left, giving it an awkward view... If ya observe whitetails a lot you'll notice they'll have tails of different lengths... I have a doe that hangs around out back that I can identifier her by a shorter tail.. Also some have tails of different colors...
I went and picked up cameras this morning and ran into a group of 12 bucks feeding together. A couple I'll be looking for this fall.
"Also, what's up with the buck on the far right? "
Worst haircut ever!
Zoom in.... the buck looks like it has been shaved to the skin from scalp to tail.
Looks like his tail to me. The real question is what is this?
Any time my farmer plants soybeans, the bachelor herds show up as predictable as the sunrise. My best year was 33 deer visiting 50 acres of soybeans, and half of those were bucks. They repeated it late season after rut well into December.
Yeah Stoneman, I was looking at that photo Catscratch posted too... I'm guessing clusters of bloated ticks on his left ear, but also notice there are a couple on his right ear... Then if ya look at his left antler, notice it's nontypical possibly deformed (maybe a double beam), so whether that has anything to do with it one can only guess...
With his likely projected development , I'd stick that dude in a second come season... I luv character racks...
Having trouble uploading a photo.... hope it works
The shaved buck
The deer at my favorite two spots have all but vanished. I hunt trails going to two pastures. I have had my cameras out since April. I get about a doe every two days. Usually I have 5 to seven bucks a day walking to the fields. No other farms are close and nothing is dropping yet. But I am seeing bears and cubs every day. Dog running season is close and this usually moves the bears away for awhile. Strange summer so far.
nchunter that is kinda common around here but usually happens closer to the end of August when they convert from soybeans and crop fields to soft mass such as fruits and berries and such... Happens around here mid to late August just before they shed their velvet and then they go onto hard mass such as nuts and then begin their prerut preparation...
Like clock work here you can watch and film bachelor groups of bucks in the same crop field evening after evening all summer long and then in late August they disappear like they were never there and if your lucky enough to see them again they are in hard horn...
