Wouldn't it be great if they just couldn't adapt and kept starving out, getting ran over, hunted, trapped and just couldn't ever "establish" a population other than stockers and stocking them to just die eventually was viewed as inhumane. One in Larimer County was found dead and it appears to be from natural causes.

It would be great if the ranchers would start shooting them. Mortality signals don't go out for 6-8 hours.

A wolf from the great lakes caught in a leghold in Elbert County. How does that happen? I guess one could make it that far but I find it odd it would go to just outside the Denver metro of all places. Best case it's someone's pet who got loose. But I wonder if some PETA types may not have done some of there own reintroductions.

I live in Ellbert County. When we moved here in 2000, one of my odd-ball neighbors raised wolves. He ultimately lost his ranch for not paying property taxes and moved out. No one knows what happened to his wolves, but the rumor is he just turned them loose.

I thought it was interesting that someone noticed that the wolf found here was in fine, fat condition. That seems a little surprising, doesn’t it? Be interesting to see what the necropsy report says….

The latest dead one in Larimer County, one of the collared released ones, was supposedly killed by a mountain lion according to the CPW spin machine.

The CPW spin machine tried to sell it as natural causes, Ha. It was killed by a lion

If a mtn lion actually did kill the wuff, that will only feed the lion initiative

Call BS on the lion story. Thing probably starved to death or was already old or sick when they got it.

Not really. Elbert county is cattle and horse country. We also have our share of deer, antelope, turkeys, and even elk. There's plenty for a wolf to eat out here.

Not to disagree entirely, but wolves are most efficient as pack hunters, right? And if there were a lot of livestock getting eaten, wouldn’t people be talking about it?
I’ll be watching this one…. Don’t know enough to pretend to have a firm opinion.

I'll shoot one if given the chance RK. You might not be able to hit one, seeing as you've killed so many pet dogs and all.

It probably got here by truck. There are lots of people who have wolves. One was probably released or escaped. Ken

Wait until we have a bad winter. I had a rancher w of Craig tell me there were 15,000 elk on the property, including one group of 600 in the next basin. The wolves don't have to eat them all, they just need to chase them and exhaust their reserves to kill dozens at a time.

The articles saying that wolves have crossed the divide to the eastern slope are kinda funny considering they’ve been in Jackson county east of the divide for a long time and some of the stocked ones came over shortly after being stocked.

Bump to fubar. Nobody remembers the whole freaking pack that had started from two supposed males that "naturally" migrated into north park (east of the divide) all before the wolf initiative. Remember the one male miraculously turned into a female and they had 6 pups. So where are they now? Only one left from what I have heard from the locals. The others either couldn't make it after being chased by cpw choppers to get collars on them, or they were shot in Wyoming. Now the introduction wolves have infiltrated north park and no surprise one would end up over the top and into "the front range". The voters are sure getting a taste of reality. Meanwhile cattle prices are at all time highs. Go figure. I heard a 2 month old Angus calf sold for $900 at a sale recently. That'll eat up the reimbursement funds pretty quickly once the rest of the planned wolves hit the ground running. It's only going to get worse before it gets better. I've hunted north park for over 30 years. Since the wolves has been the worst elk harvest in that DAU on record. Its because the wolves push them out in winter then they don't come back the next winter and we'll see if this fall has any return of the herd. Yeah sss might be poaching but only if you leave off the third S.

15 more planned to be released in December they said on the news this morning. Also showed video of a meeting where a person was saying the collars get chewed off or damaged by the other wolves, so keeping tabs on them won't be easy.

I hope they have to pay way more than $900/head to reimburse those ranchers! I would think $2k would be a base point and many more registered cattle would be worth way north of that. They can get the money wherever they intended on getting it when they turned wolves loose.

Wolves make fantastic taxidermy mounts. I believe that every wolf should be mounted.
