One of the things I enjoy most, is booking trips for first time safari goers to Africa. Sometimes, I get to tag along on these group hunts to make sure everything goes smoothly and perhaps offer some sense of comfort for clients knowing they are going across the pond with someone who has been there and done that more than a few times.
I just returned from an awesome trip to the Eastern Cape with some "first timer" Africa clients and they sure had a blast. If you want to experience Africa and NOT hunt behind a fence at affordable prices, shoot me a message. Our clients shot nearly 40 animals in 10 days (I shot a couple, as did our video producer and his girlfriend). No fences...great people...awesome food...definitely a best kept secret where I have hunted twice personally. Disclaimer - This is a rifle hunt and not a debate on fencing. I have hunted behind a fence (like many of you) in Africa several times. This is just another option if you want to try something different.

I should also clarify...the fallow deer the clients shot (3) were shot a couple hours away on a fenced farm. All of the traditional African plains game were free range.

Yes, kinda...John Andre sold Shoshone a couple of years ago to two new owners (brothers) who live in GA. The company has been brought into the "computer age" so to speak and we have expanded greatly. I run the day-to-day and we have several full time/part time employees. We have also launched a new YouTube Channel with some great new content with lots more to follow...like two episodes that were shot on this recent hunt.

I agree. And hey....I have hunted behind fences with some awesome outfitters, and I totally get it, nothing wrong with it and quite frankly without the fences, and the value placed on game in RSA we would not be able to enjoy the incredible wildlife. I'm headed back in June with some different clients to a high fence farm and I can't wait...awesome place. But yes, this "best kept secret" certainly fills a niche if you don't want to hunt behind a fence, no matter how big the fenced farm.

Could this hunt realistically be done as a bow hunt?

Good question, but I just don't see it. Sitting over water would not be effective. These farms (several family farms) are over 10k acres each with multiple water sources, some natural and some for sheep/cattle. I suppose a fella could stalk kudu in the brush, but I don't want to say yes...just to say yes. I posted some photos of this last hunt with these clients just to reiterate that are free range options...and I know fellas like the photos.

Another thought....the bushpig, blue duiker and oribi would be possible, and maybe steeenbok and common duiker, only because they stand there and look at you sometimes. Spot and stalk would be awesome on the larger game, but it would be extremely difficult.

No doubt...no argument from me there. I just don't want to give false hopes for archery success just secure bookings. There are some awesome companies that specialize in archery hunting, although they are fenced and over water (for the most part, but not all of them).
