I finally got my turkey this year. Hunting on top of a hill I hit him good, but he was able to get off the ground and fly. Luckly, I was able to find him piled up in an open grass area. It got me thinking about using string trackers again. I used them early in my turkey bowhunting ventures, but it seemed like if they went far enough to need a tracker the string usually broke. What say you?

I think a string tracker is a great asset when turkey hunting myself.

I always use a tracker and it has made a difference in a number of turkey recoveries over the years. This year I used Tradtrakr on 2 birds and it worked flawlessly. That is correct spelling. It will work with any bow. I believe some type of tracker it’s important for turkeys and I shoot them at close range so no impact on flight.

I am biased but I have used one for 30 years. With the lightweight thread I use I see no affect on arrow flight and no downside to using it!

I’ve never used on turkeys. Did use one on several deer many years ago. It helped in same cases, not in other cases.

I have never used a string tracker, although it may have been useful on a couple of tough recoveries I had before switching to the Bullhead. Consider trying the Magnus Bullhead...no need for tracking! I prefer the 125gr for increased diameter.

No. Bad juju for arrow flight.

Do you put a barb on the arrow and just reel them back in?

I can remember seeing string down through the woods everywhere but have not seen any for years .

Never on turkey, but did use them for bear 30 years ago. Seemed to work fine inside 20 yards.

I've been using them for turkey after a 'bad' year a couple of years ago. The one turkey I killed while using it didn't go but 5 yards so it didn't make a difference. That said, I will never hunt turkey without them again. I mostly used the Tradtraker this year but it never came into play. It doesn't effect arrow flight that I can tell.

Not I many years… this was the last time I did 20 or so years ago..

You can see the string passing through the bear.

I never used one for turkey but have for bear.

I'm actually quite surprised folks still are using them. I kinda thought they where a thing of the passed. First time in many years I've heard the name string tracker.

I also shot a couple bears with one. I did recover both bears but not due to the string tracker. Both times the string got tangled in the brush right away and was broken.

I still use them Hog hunting & arrowed many with it. Love it. Farthest was 30 yds. I have used for Turkey too. Have 3 or 4 hogs on video with it.

The one I use has zero impact on arrow flight. Absolutely worst case it does not help. Best case you recover an animal otherwise lost. No brainer in my opinion.

Not since June 3rd 1989.

Wouldn't have found my bird this year without it.
