Are bears usually blind shy? Do they get destroyed by curious bears?
I know some have had great success with ground blinds built specifically for the task; but I’m wondering about Pop Ups.
A few of us were discussing it and some of us thought it might add some excitement to the mix; but I wouldn’t want to lessen the chance at a good bear coming in.
Has anyone tried this? What do you think?
If left overnight it is almost guaranteed to be destroyed in one night. I would create a brush pile and sit in it if I was restricted to being on the ground. I would really build it up behind you to break up your silhouette and make it less likely for a bear to sneak up behind you, or even just to make you feel more comfortable while sitting. I would also wear leafy wear, a head net and face paint.
With all that said if I had to put up a stand on short notice on a bait I would much prefer to be in a hanging tree stand. I would wear black to look like a bear in the tree. Black jacket, pants and black face paint.

It’s a crab shoot if they will destroy it or not. Half my baits they have, the other half they leave it alone for some reason.
I have not had a brown bear ruin a ground blind though.
I really like them- helps keep the wind off and the rain. A thermacell works wonders in a blind for the bugs. I can sit with my kids or a friend. Easy to video out of with a tripod.
For hunting brown bears it’s a marathon to kill. They are very nocturnal and it doesn’t get dark much in Ak- so the best strategy is to stay all night. Not practical in a tree stand, with rain, mosquitoes, and trying to get a few hours of sleep.
The strategy I use is the placement- I look for a spot with a bit of a hill or cliff and put the blind there overlooking the bait about 20yds away. Try not to put it where a bear will walk. And don’t ever walk between the bait and the blind, circle around as far as you can to it.
