Can you libs please explain how all these politicians are multi millionaires? Yup no laws broken from any of them. This country is effed. The new norm will be putting candidates in jail just like Ukraine and Russia does I hope you’re all happy. Wait and see the results.

Sawtooth maybe so but I’d be much happier if Biden banged a porn star then what he has done to make his millions in his last 50 useless years as a politician. Politicians are in a special club that Trump ain’t a part of. The elites are no doubt scared of Trump undermining their future agenda and the Bowsite liberals will see what really is going to happen starting soon. I’m guessing a nice homeland terrorist attack by end of year but oh well who cares vote for creepy Joe!

sad day for the country, and i am afraid it'll only get worse from here.

i never understood his diehard supporters that often and repeatedly said he was smarter and always a step or two ahead of his political opponents and the media. never did i believe this and always felt his opponents ate his lunch, as is the case today. they have destroyed this man, and some of it has been brought on by his buffoonery at times. i give him a ton of credit though, he is a fighter and not all hope is lost, yet.

i suspect nikki hailey saw this coming and is the reason she recently spoke out and said she would vote for him.

I like most of Trump's policies, but at this point his character has been damaged to the unaffiliated voters (who actually elect the president). Today, this could be the “Great Awakening” in America to see the corruptness in the American justice system and the deep hatred in politics.

I look at this day as when reality hit the American voting public. This could be the greatest day in garnering support for Trump’s campaign. The American voting public are not fools and will see the hypocrisy that has occurred today.

I think Trump’s victory in November will be greater than any of Reagan’s victories. The spirit of Paul Revere famous ride, rode today in Manhattan!

Time for a Republican D.A. to start compiling charges against Biden on his first day out of office. Go tell that to the millions of women who believe they lost their abortion rights to the Trump-appointed Supreme Court. Trump, Mitch McConnell and the Federalist Society worked like fiends to tilt the entire federal Court system toward the religious right. This country won’t cave to the immortal ways of the political powers that are controlling things right now. Things will get hard to understand and become a one way road to Hell. It feels that’s where it’s headed now. In the end though Jesus wins. I’m on that bus. Some of you guys might wanna join the ride.

I'm conflicted on this whole thing. While president, Trump did good things, but being originally from the east coast, I saw him when he was a loyal democrat, shiester business man, using bankruptcy laws to pad his pocket in his real estate ventures. Typical manhattan businessman slime. His character was morally corrupt back then, and I think new yorkers mostly have seen him in this light, so the reason for the verdict. And many from the rest of the country never experienced his shenanigans. Also, remember the whole Obama birth certificate fiasco...

However in recent times he did a great job as president. How does one resolve this....

"The real question is. Do you think the majority of Americans feel that Trump got a fair trial?"

About 50% think he got a fair trial, and the other 50% do not think he got a fair trial.

Sundowner posted above "And I believe a vast number of Americans are now, and will be fired up over this persecution of Trump. I believe people who didn't plan to vote for Trump, and even more who don't normally vote at all will turn out in droves to support him now."

I do not think there will be much if any change in voter support, whether you are for or against trump.

As has been the case for the last few elections, the election will be decided by women, independents, and younger voters. that has not changed.

The democrats strategy has always been to keep trump front and center. as long as they and he continue to talk about trump and his legal woes rather than the issues, he is less likely to win over the voters that will decide the election. if there is a debate, biden will destroy him simply because trump will be easy to trigger and make look foolish.

the democrats have been successful shaping the messaging about this election. rather than inflation, the border, wars, biden's cognitive ability, etc., it is about trump breaking the law. it does not matter whether you agree with or believe it, it is what is happening, and it will have some effect on the voters.

the right and left wing nut jobs on radio and tv are loving this. meanwhile those of us that go to work every day to support a family and build a secure future can't stand the drama and the two crooked knuckleheads we have to choose from. the country would be better off if we lock them both up and start over.

“Democrat Manhattan Judge Juan Merchan, who donated to Biden and whose adult daughter is raising millions from Merchan’s unprecedented trial of President Trump, knows he must recuse under New York statute. And the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct just reprimanded Merchan for his inappropriate political donations in 2020. MAYBE he will be in prison, MAYBE this president we have now will pass away or get to sick to do it , and we can get 2 better options to run this damn country . That’s how I feel !!!

"...and we can get 2 better options to run this damn country."

who specifically would you recommend?

its always easy to complain about the two options but its not so easy to come up with an alternative.

kind of reminds me of that old groucho marx quote...

"I don't want to belong to any club that will accept me as a member.”

unfortunately...some of the very best people wouldnt subject themselves to the process. those than can run the gauntlet and actually get elected arent always the kind wed choose as our friends.

Paul Ryan was Speaker of the House for four years and was chosen to run as Vice President with Romney. He is also a avid bow hunter. He chose not to run for re-election after the Democrats took over the House. He would not be a MAGA choice but would get a lot of independent votes if he ran for President the next election.

Just about ANY Republican who would get a hard pass from MAGA/Tea Party types would be OK with me….

John Kasich would have won in a WALK over HRC , and Joe Biden would NOT be up for reelection right now. On top of that, the Democrats would not have been able to afford to go so far to the left if they were running against someone more moderate on the right…

But no…

We have 3rd world scale corruption in the US under the Biden Admin.

Hillary got fined $8,000 when she was caught passing off the Steele dossier as legal fees. Nevermind it was election interference at the highest levels......and never mind she was raking in millions for deals as Sec of state -including the approval of strategic uranium mines to the Russians, that was $33m to her Foundation [slush fund more like]

So now; Gary Gensler, the Hillary official who oversaw filing payments for the fake Steele Dossier as 'legal expenses'................ is now the Chairman of the SEC

How did we get here? The Democrat party promotes their crooks....and Dem voters cheer the destruction of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

CNN Legal analyst Elie Honig that isa liberal but doesn't suffer from TDS put out a very interesting article on how the Judge should never have been allowed to try this case and how his rulings were reversable. It's in new york magazine but behind a pay wall so here is Yahoo's article.

Honig then laid out "undeniable facts" about NY v. Trump.

"The judge donated money — a tiny amount, $35, but in plain violation of a rule prohibiting New York judges from making political donations of any kind — to a pro-Biden, anti-Trump political operation, including funds that the judge earmarked for ‘resisting the Republican Party and Donald Trump’s radical right-wing legacy,’" Honig wrote. "Would folks have been just fine with the judge staying on the case if he had donated a couple bucks to ‘Re-elect Donald Trump, MAGA forever!’? Absolutely not."

The CNN legal guru then noted that Bragg ran for office by "touting his Trump-hunting prowess" in the deeply blue county. Honig, who noted Bragg and Trump attorney Todd Blanche are both his friends and former colleagues, also said Bragg regularly made false claims about Trump on the campaign trail.

"Most importantly, the DA’s charges against Trump push the outer boundaries of the law and due process. That’s not on the jury. That’s on the prosecutors who chose to bring the case and the judge who let it play out as it did," Honig wrote.

Unfortunately the modern Democrats don't care about the constitution or the protections it grants to US Citizens, even Trump so they will violate it at every turn in their quest for power.

This one fact SHOULD infuriate every single American.....They have tried over and over and over to take out Donald Trump. CLEARLY !! When they themselves are far from innocent.

It's all a political quest for control....I hate to rain on your parade Democrats.....but your party does not care squat about you.

And for the record i really do not care for Donald Trumps personality.....But despite all this....I trust him with my freedoms, and this country......far ,FAR more than Joe Biden and most of the democratic party.....

I wonder how many democrats will sit like a dumb frog and slowly be boiled to death....to dumb to jump out of that pot before its to late. If this country goes down.....you go with us. ... I mean in case you haven't noticed freedoms aside.....Your paying a lot more to live than when Trump was in office.....you get no break just because your democrat. Gun control?......you lose yours just as well. YOUR kids will suffer just like the rest.... And that's what concerns me the most. What kind of country will our kids have to live in?

We ALL will pay. So think long and hard where the greatest threat lies here.

I doubt that very many of Trump's supporters actually believe that there aren't some selfish motives involved in what he is doing. I think he's building a legacy.....giving himself a place in the history books.

But I think he also relates his thinking to the founding fathers, and to Lincoln. I think Trump really believes the Cause is bigger and far more important than him or any one man. Why would he keep sacrificing his life of luxury? Why would he risk going to jail? And the DOJ and the state of NY certainly has the power to put him there.

I think he believes that he, and perhaps only he can bring this nation back from the brink of ruin.

He may be right.

"A group of what's been described as "Never Trump" voters are suddenly backing the former president following last week's historic conviction.

The Free Press spoke with several voters from across the country whose opinions were significantly impacted by the guilty verdict in the New York trial against former President Trump.

Shaun Maguire, a Los Angeles-based venture capitalist and a former Hillary Clinton campaign donor, declared on social media that he donated $300,000 to the Trump campaign within an hour of the verdict, and wrote in an essay that "the double standards and lawfare that Trump has faced" "boiled my blood."

He told The Free Press, "We were told that Donald Trump would be the end of democracy, but it turns out that lawfare tactics have been escalated by the Democrats and not by the Republicans. And so it’s from that backdrop that I believe the Republican Party is less of a danger to democracy than the Democratic Party right now."

Politicians are after power and control let that sink in. Do you honestly for one moment believe they are doing this to Donald Trump on your behalf?....For the good of the people?

Have you not noticed the divisions they create?.....Is it all because of a rich businessman, ?or evil intention?....lets not be so naive.

Right now the most serious problem we face as a nation is deciphering who is the threat to freedom and rights. No politician is going to blatantly say...we are here to steal your rights. They will say your free......as long as you do what we say, and don't question us.. You can be queer, transgender, kill baby's etc......but not question our authority.

Seems the liberals on here are attempting to distort reality of inflation and its effect on the economy and people by suggesting it’s all just people that aren’t being fiscally responsible that is causing the personal debt crisis .

Interesting!

Actually, you have that completely backwards, Nyati. The bulk of people posting on this site have been distorting the reality of the economy (strong employment, real wage growth, strong demand and consumer spending, increasing asset valuations), and fail to understand the effect on prices. And like GG, not a liberal.

But totally agree with the rest of your statement that individual fiscal responsibility is squarely to blame for the increasing consumer debt and delinquencies.

BEG, if the economic numbers are all great as you suggest then why is Biden only polling in the 30% range for approval of the economy under him ?

You clearly didn’t read GG’s article. It’s not at all surprising when 60-70% of the country thinks we’re in a recession, inflation is rising, the stock markets are down for the year, and unemployment is at all time highs. In short, most Americans are clueless.

Nyati, perhaps it's because 70% of the population mistakenly credit, or blame, the POTUS for the state of the economy. Or they incorrectly equate inflation with the economy. Or they think their own poor personal financial situation applies to everyone. As I stated earlier, 3 in 5 Americans ignorantly think we are in a recession, so there you go.

Nobody likes the hyper inflation we've seen since covid, but there are specific reasons for it that have nothing to do with the POTUS.

I read it, I just don’t trust the source.

The question is WHY do they think country is in a recession? I don’t believe that 70% think that we’re in a recession .

Ya’ll keep arguing that inflation is down so things are better . While it’s true the rate of inflation is down to about 3% what you leave out is that the 3% is on top of the 20% that it has already gone up .

You’re telling people to believe an alternative reality then on top of that casting blame on them for not being fiscally irresponsible.

They’re not buying what you’re selling

Here’s my problem with it . A liberal publication gets Harris to do a poll exclusively for itself. If a liberal publication wants to get a poll to show what it wants to show they can do it. Examples of 2 of what would be considered basic necessities of life. Housing and transportation. I don’t think these could be considered living an extravagant life. A home and a vehicle. Even if you get low end or average housing and vehicles it’s still way more expensive than 4 years ago .

“If a liberal publication wants to get a poll to show what it wants to show they can do it”

Well, go ahead and share the poll that shows the majority of Americans accurately characterize the performance of Americans. I’ll wait.

The poll is the poll. It precisely explains why a vast majority of Americans characterize the economy as poor. I’ve said it countless times, if this is “poor,” what is it when we are actually in a recession, stock markets have crashed, we have high unemployment, and are experiencing stagflation? That is what poor looks like to me.

And regarding prices, again, it’s really easy to make things worse than they are by leaving out the gain in wages the average American has seen during that same time period. When looking at real price increases over that time, not nominal increases, they’ve gone up by a cumulative 5-10%. Now different people are impacted in different ways by inflation (if you are on a fixed income with no cost of living adjustment, yes, inflation is going to impact you more), but I’ll argue if you have to go into debt over a 5-10% increase in prices, you weren’t being fiscally responsible in the first place.

“Housing and transportation. I don’t think these could be considered living an extravagant life. A home and a vehicle. Even if you get low end or average housing and vehicles it’s still way more expensive than 4 years ago.”

If your home is more expensive you’re going to benefit when you sell it, so stop acting like it’s only negative. Further to that, how many people have actually bought a new house or new vehicle. You act like these are costs impacting everyone. About 1% took out a mortgage in 2023. Lastly, it’s my opinion that anyone crying that we aren’t doing enough to battle inflation and then cries that interest rates and mortgages are too high doesn’t really understand monetary policy and is likely just brainwashed by politicians.

Yesterday I stopped to help an older gentleman broken down on the highway. He needed gas so I drove back home to grab a can, drove past him to the nearest town to fill it up, then backtracked again to get back to him. While pouring gas we got to talking. He'd taken care of his mom until she died. He didn't want to leave Wichita but after her death his brother sold the house so he found a place he could afford 1.5hrs away (45 minutes from the nearest grocery store). He then took care of his wife for a couple of yrs as she died of cancer. Now he sells vegetables and tomatoe plants he grows in a makeshift greenhouse he pieced together. His dog barked when I got close to the vehicle. Looked like a Shepard mix of some sort. Only had 1 eye but was obviously well cared for with a sleek coat and obedient when his owner told him to hush. The saddest thing he told me was that he doesn't get to get groceries WHEN he wants. I suspect the dog does better than him on the weeks that the groceries run out. We said a prayer, shook hands. He accepted the drink I'd gotten him while buying gas but it looked like it hurt his pride to do so. I recognized his tatoo and had noticed his veterans plates so told him thanks for his service (without asking about it). Then we moved on our separate ways.

So as you guy slap each other on the back and chuckle about how well things are going, understand not everyone has slack in their belt to tighten. If you guys want to call the man I met yesterday irresponsible to his face have at it. I personally had to much respect and empathy for him to say something like that. Oh, he didn't have a phone to call for help because he'd rather have the companionship of his pup and didn't think he could successfully afford both.

As it has always been, Catscratch. So what are you suggesting? We should characterize the state of things based on how things are going for the bottom 5%?

You do realize it is possible to have empathy for those that are struggling and recognize that their experience is also outside of two standard deviations of the “average” person in the country. These aren’t mutually exclusive concepts.

From: bigeasygator

"So BEG what is the %"

There's a range of estimates, and it's not an easy thing to calculate. The highest estimates claim that roughly half of the peak annual inflation we saw (ie, 4% of the 8%) in 2022 were a result of Biden's ARP. Lower estimates put it in the 1-2% range.

It's not easy to measure, as the fiscal policy also accompanied monetary policy that was also meant to stimulate the economy. And that it did. The US had the fastest economic recovery of any developed nation in the world when looking at metrics like job growth, unemployment, and GDP. A bi-product of that is we got inflation.

Beyond 2022, you have to start to look at what is driving inflation and whether it's a bad or good. Prices are driven by supply and demand, and much of the supply side issues have been worked out. The reality is that prices over the last few years have largely been driven more by demand side forces, which many people would consider "good" inflation.

Would it have been "better" to forego stimulus and slow the recovery (and bear the brunt of whatever pain that would cause) at the benefit of having lower prices now? I'd argue no, it wouldn't have. At the end of the day, what I see here are people who have come to a conclusion regarding certain decisions without giving a second thought to the extent of the impact of those decision or what the alternatives would look like if a different decision was taken.

I disagree. I don't think the government should be subsidizing any industry in the marketplace. They shouldn't be picking the winners. Let the free markets decide.

Spike, this is a quote from the link above:

"The first CHIPS grant, totaling $35 million, went to BAE Systems—a UK-based defense contractor—in December 2023 to produce chips for F-15 and F-35 fighter jets. Intel, the American chipmaking giant, was approved in March 2024 to receive $8.5 billion in grants and $11 billion in loans—the largest grant awarded to a chipmaker. Intel previously announced it would invest $100 billion over five years to build new U.S. facilities. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will receive $6.6 billion in grants and $5 billion in loans to support three fabrication plants in Arizona. TSMC’s plans to invest $65 billion in the United States marks the largest foreign direct investment in a greenfield project in U.S. history."

However when it’s national security or things like medication, or critical infrastructure I’m able to swallow that a little easier . We are too vulnerable to whims of foreign governments that sometimes aren’t all that friendly

If they’re going to give hundreds of millions of dollars to foreign governments or fund stupid studies , I’d rather that money be kept in America for national security
