Just left Orient Point, Long Island on the ferry over to New London, Ct.
The weather looks to be a very warm week with chance of thunderstorms and minimal mosquitoes (Lol)
Todays goal is to head to Waterville, Maine, grab some dimmer and get off the road to finish up tomorrow.
6 other hunters will be in camp this coming week. Last week was very successful with one real big boar taken.
I’m most exited to see if my new rig performs well. After a few weeks of “ tinkering” is was pretty rewarding to see the arrows fly as intended even though I’m expecting a shot under 20 yards.
This is what I believe the last week of the spring season up there. I’ve never hunted this late.
No matter what, it’s still going to be great to be in the bush waiting on the opportunity.
Updates along the way.
The last week in NB was always our favorite. Severa "20s" and a giant 21 have been tagged then.
Looking forward to photos.
Dave has good things in store for your group and I am sure the last week of the season will end with a good result. Have fun and be ready for something to happen fast.
Gotta admit, when I saw the title I thought someone had killed a 24" black bear.
Thanks everyone.
Waterville tonite and going to head to the “ Proper Pig” for some great BBQ.
I did the usual break stop at Cabela’s in Scarborough for a few small items.
Gosh has Cabela’s changed. Definitely not the same but what ever stays the same these days.
At least the fantastic Moose sculpture is still there.
The officer wanted to know why I had two bows. I simply stated one was a back up in case something happened to the first below. His common was you can’t shoot both at the same time can you?
It always seems that it’s raining falling in the camp. Another hours worth of driving left.
Only 4 of us in camp. 2 with bow, and 2 rifle hunters.
Excited for the first sit.
Total washout last evening although the first two hours were calm. Good to be back in the bush hunting bruins.
Today looks promising with a major weather break around 1pm with the sun making an appearance around 4-5 pm.
Hope the roads into Z18 remain passable for y'all.
Definitely not today I don’t think. It was pretty hairy getting out of there last night. Lol as you know.
Getting into that bait has always been dicey after a day or two of storms. Hope you're able to get back in there.
Rick
The other bowhunter had some decent action as well with 5 seen also but no shot. By description it seems he had some rutting action all around him.
One rifle hunter took a sow and the other had no sightings.
Looking forward to this evening to get back in the same set.
Other gun hunter shot a bear with recovery this am.
Rain predicted for today to end around 3 pm hopefully.
Action started about this time on our last night. She eventually ran out of shooting light.
It took quite an effort to get back into the bait areas but it was managed.
I ended up passing a sow and a boar which were just not big enough.
Considering we lost two days, even though I went, I had the most sightings of the four of us hunting.
One rifle hunter took another bear and the other bowhunter rode the “ Struggle Bus”
That’s it. Not a bad hunt, not a great hunt, but worth every penny to be there.
Thx for following
A couple random pics
Millie and I enjoyed the play-by-play and the pics.
Safe travels
