Did this with Lloyd Clark with Pink Mountain Outfitters in BC and it takes it to a whole new level! Off the charts fun. Used a predator call and the results were ridiculous fun. Of course, these bears had never had much, if any interaction with humans.

Yep, called this Colorado bear in to bow range using a Fawn in distress call. I made a make shift blind next to a large pine tree, in a wide draw that was running slightly up hill. Started calling at first light, with low calls for the first 15 minutes and then louder after that. Only allowed a minute or two between calls. This bear came in after 45 minutes of calling. Shot it at 20 yards. Playing the wind is very important. I was that bear's breakfast that morning.

Does unintentionally calling them in with an elk cow call count?

Used a fawn distress call once upon a time, when Colorado, had spring bear season, out of Cotez. Lots of cinnamon phase and blond phase.
Give it a try.

I've called in a few black bear over many years. I live in an area of Pa that has good numbers. I was not hunting them, but deer hunting here in the fall. I would just be in a tree stand and saw them and pulled out the call and start calling. I had used both predator and fawn calls. What I've learned is bear seem to have a short attention span. You get one coming in you keep calling. It seems if you stop they loose interest quickly. I have never tried to actually go bear hunting by calling. I've also never killed one calling. But know it can be done.

I’ve tried a fawn distress call a few times with no results. That was blind calling though, I think it works better if you can see the bear and call him in.

Amazing pic Paul!!! And lots of great info on here.
@danac I'm a rookie myself but I read calling works better in the spring, possibly due to more acorns and berries ready later in the year plus they are fatter and lazier in the fall too. I can't verify though
Here's a podcast I found about calling bears

Ambush near a water source is much more productive.

Larry Jones and Dwight Shuh, had some good videos on this back in the day, maybe you can find them in the You Tube world. Once I watched their video, on mule deer. That season drove to Nevada, bought my tag at a hardware store, and 7 days later, shot a pig..... They were knowledgeable guys.

Dana, I called this bear in, late September. They are feeding 24/7 preparing for hibernation.
