This should be an AWESOME thread! I hope she costs you a pile of money in trophy and taxidermy fees, Danny! Have a wonderful adventure, and thanks for taking us along!
Looking forward to all the pictures and story. Enjoy!
Sorry I missed you at Afton. Went out to eat when you arrived.
Hey Ken, we were so pushed into that van I couldn’t get out to say hi but wanted to… was one of the best times I ever had Hunting with you.. wish we could caught up!
Have fun you two, what an adventure!
Nice, Danny! Might have to stop and see your new additions next time I’m through Salida. Have fun and be safe.
Lots of animals waiting in a good Kudu today.. Rilynn did great and was incredibly patient. She set up on all animals at the waterhole but we just didn’t have the right Kudu come in. We had lots of bushbuck, impalas, waterbuck, duiker, mongoose, nyalas, kudu, and others.. tomorrow hopefully is the day!
Our group did have a pretty incredible day today though.. one great big kudu bull, mountain reedbuck, and crocodile.. Will post pics as we go. FYI, I am the only actual bowhunter as everyone else brought guns or crossbows either due to age (shoulder issues for two my day and another hunting partner) or being horribly misguided!
Have a great adventure. Post lots of pictures. Good luck Rilynn!
Good Luck Rilynn and party
Good luck, should be a great thread !
We hunted all day and the wind killed us..Rilynn didn’t get to shoot today due to wind issues. My dad filled a lifelong dream of a Cape buffalo today and added eland as well.. great time with amazing folks. we had two blue wildebeest and two great big impala and the wind shifted right when it was time to shoot.. was a great day though.. will post pics of the animals when I get them
Missed the start of this thread as we were up at our place north of Cotopaxi last week. Can't wait to see the rest of the pictures and follow along on the write up. Thanks for sharing Danny.
Excellent thread. Nice crock
What an old bruiser of a buffalo ! Congrats to your Dad !
We had an amazing day.. Rilynn connected on her first African animal, a very large impala ram. She stayed calm until after the shot.. then she was so excited and had buck fever so bad she shook and had seen tears.. it was an amazing experience for us both and she made a perfect shot. Later in the day I got a shot at a great mountain reedbuck and we are both now on the board!!
Rilynn really wants a kudu and blue wildebeest.. so tomorrow we’re off again..
I’m hearing the others killed a baboon, zebras, and warthogs but haven’t had the chance to talk with them yet.. pics to come soon when I’m back at home base. We have been driving about an hour and a half each morning to a bow hunting only obsession that is roughly 20,000 acres… more to come!!
Congrats to Rilynn! You as well, Danny! Looking forward to the updates and pics.
Please post some pictures
Offer for another morning! Weather‘s been beautiful and hopefully blue wildebeest will cooperate today
Long day in the blind… we’re trying for blue wildebeest today and we just simply can’t get one in front of us.. we did have some great Eland in front of us, but Rilynn decided to pass because she really wants a kudu instead later.. I gave her the choice. we had to stack three pallets so that she could see into the window from the blind blind but it would’ve had something come out we to shoot it we wanted to.. my dad killed a great mountain reedbuck and impala.. another hunter killed the great Nyala. Been an amazing time so far!
We had a pretty amazing, but slow day. We still can’t seem to get a blue wildebeest or kudu in front of Rilynn. We have four more days, so plenty of time. On my wants to hunt this time was bushbuck and Nyala. We’ve seen both, but today we finally got a decent bushbuck within range and the shot was true. He only went 80 yards and piled up. No clue what the rest of the crew had done.. more pics to come!
Awesome stuff Danny! Congrats to Rilynn and yourself on a helluva an adventure so far!
You’ve got an exciting adventure going. Congrats on some nice trophies.
After about 36 hours of hunting in one spot waiting for a Kudu, Rilynn did it with a great shot! .. I’m about up for Nyala after wildebeest today, if we are lucky..
What a great thread! Enjoying the pics and story.
Danny - After our first trip to RSA in ‘08 we hunted with a great group of guys with Ken…we realized you can’t go just once! Methinks you’ll be taking your daughter back again and again… You’re a lucky man! Congrats to all!
Today was long day in the hide.. the wind switched in us and we had nothing at all for 7 hours. It’s a long story but we have to set rilynn up to shoot only one way and usually just one side of the watering hole. Tonight we finally had a blue and golden wildebeest come in and hang up for over an hour. Then the would not come to the water due to smelling us.. we had a window that could be shot through to our right and he kept coming there looking at the water broadside. Out PH Gerald, and I picked up her xbow and tripod and held it in place while she was finally able to got the shot… it was perfect… she’s three for three! Our group got two golden wildebeest today, my dad killed a Nyala and one warthog with a gun..
Awesome! Well done young lady!
She's gonna need a bigger room! Congrats to the whole family.
Hell yeah Danny! That's great of you to take your daughter to Africa. Love her smile in all those photos. Thanks for sharing.
Rilynn’s in heaven now that she found some dogs..
Nice pictures! I bet Rylinn wants to bring on of those dog’s back.:)
Wow, little wonder it’s taking so long if you’re only going to shoot top tier animals!! No fake smiles there!
Congratulations to your family on making memories for a lifetime. Money alone can’t buy those sincere smiles, that only comes from within.
She is absolutely hammering her animals. Perfect shot placement ! Congrats on a great trip and an experience of a lifetime for her.
We’ve had an amazing time.. will post more pics from our crew soon.. simply an amazing time..
Simply Awesome. Safe travels
Absolutely fantastic, congratulations!!!
WTG Rilynn , Your smile says it all !
Wanted to share some more photos from our week. Some of the accommodations, and others of our animals..
Congrats to both oh you. Thanks for posting
Looks like you all had a great time, thanks for sharing.
Looks like you all had a great trip. Thanks for posting!
Last one! Appreciate all the comments.. this picture is particularly my favorite picture that we took because it shows the pure joy my daughter had hunting with her ole man, our PH Gerald, and our tracker Amos. Hunting every day was a pure team effort and I cannot say enough good things on how well they accommodated Rilynn. She walks very well with crutches, but must sit to shoot no matter what.. for those who don’t know, she has a spinal cord injury when she was 9 months old due to an adverse reaction to a vaccine.. There was a point in life that we had no clue whether she’d ever be able to even move her head. Since then, with lots of physical therapy, several surgeries , and pure determination by her, we were able to go on this hunt together.. something I will cherish for the rest of my life… now we move on to elk hunting this fall with her 6.5 creedmore!
Awesome family adventure Danny! Memories for a lifetime for sure! Congratulations to Rilynn for her wonderful success on great looking species!!!
