Anybody know why no men's team?
I know they got disqualified from the World Cup in Antalya earlier this month for unsportsmen like conduct, but read they had done so purposely for some reason, but hadn't heard the reason... Anybody know what is going on?
Yes, probably so. Thank goodness!
Casey Kaufhold, Jennifer Mucino Fernandez and Catalina GNoriega are the women's team. All three qualified for the individual event as well.
Hoping there will be some footage and live scoring, but World Archery and USA Archery websites are so lame, you can't find anything. Also hoping for some extended youtube highlights as it goes on, but not holding my breath.
On a side note the US head coach KiSik Lee has been away caring for his son who has terminal cancer in Australia and is retiring. Sad news on both accounts and my prayers are with KiSik and his whole family.
Cheers, Pete

I was checking out their bows, all 3 of the USA ladies were shooting Hoyts, as was two from Taiwan and one was shooting a WIN & WIN...
Yeah, from what I watched so far, a LOT of Hoyt bows in many countries teams, BUT, a lot of WIN &WIN too... It's kinda always been like that since I've been following since London 2012... I was actually surprised to see the Fivics I posted above...
The shootoff was kinda exciting, those South Korean girls are a machine, said they have won Gold for the last 10 Olympics, I think they said the longest Gold winning streak in modern Olympic history...
All 6 bows in the Finals were WIN & WINs...
Men's Teams scheduled for tomorrow...
Pretty cool to see petite women shooting better at 0% let-off with their fingers and no peep than most “manly” bowhunters can shoot with a peep, single-digit holding weight and a caliper….
Cheers, Pete
How big is the "spider", the small x inside the 10X-ring?
About the size of a bug…
Wish I had seen your last update in time to record that….
Also on USA Network tomorrow, July 30th, 9:00 - 9:48PM,, Archery Individuals rounds 64 and 32, and Wednesday, July 31st @ 08:00 AM...
Am kinda looking forward to the Mixed Team Archery event, one man and one lady team against the others countries... I've never seen one of those events, scheduled to be televised for Friday August 2nd @ 09:15AM on USA Network... Mixed Team 1/8 Elimination Rounds on Friday 2 August 2024 @ 5:24 with USA's Brady ELLISON (male) and Casey KAUFHOLD (female) against Uzbekistan UZB team...
Over a decade ago got into a discussion over on the Leatherwall about Olympic bow weights, but that would be a good question for limbwalker (he's posts here once in a while), I think he qualified for the Olympics once... Viper was also involved with Olympic shooting if I remember right...
If I remember correctly, the ladies bows were in the 35# range and the men's were in the 50# range...
I'm sure all Olympians shoot Easton 10X arrow shafts with spin wings or kurly vanes... Notice you don't see feathers or regular looking vanes... I bought some spin wings years ago to experiment with but they were a too hard to fletch... I think I still have them somewhere...
"What bow do Olympic archers use? In Olympic archery, competitors use recurve bows that draw an average of around 48.5 pounds for the men and 33 pounds for the women. The bow may have a mechanical sight, but no optical enhancements. It also may feature stabilizers on the bow" "

He's scheduled to shoot against 58th ranked Abdullah Yildirmis of Turkey tomorrow @ 4:48PM, (Eastern time)
Limbwalker has been to the Olympics as a coach; I don’t know that he ever went as a competitor. Viper (Anthony Camera) is a coach and the author of a well regarded book on the subject (https://www.amazon.com/Shooting-Stickbow-Practical-Approach-Classical/dp/1602642443)
I don’t know that Viper has or hasn’t been directly involved in Olympic competition either as an Archer or as a Coach, but he does teach/coach people using Olympic Style equipment.

For those into the shooting events, USA took Gold and Silver in Men's Individual Skeet, and Sagen Maddalena in Women's 3-Position 50 Meter Rifle took Silver... Am curious as to what brand .22 rimfire ammo they shoot...
Can't even imagine the pressure,,, Great Drama...

American Brady Ellison, in 5th Olympics, misses elusive gold in shoot-off with South Korea’s Kim
70 meters.....both tied on the final round shooting 3 arrows each in about a 5" circle.
The both shoot what was essentially a 10[ Brady's might have been just outside or on the line...but Kim's arrow was 2" closer inside the 10. Wow

Seems to me the olympic guys said they shot 45-48# or close to it- the longer distance and cleaner release with more #’s was the reason they gave.
.
I am off to go tune up the #62….. But I’m not going to be taking many dozens of shots at that weight…..
It’s not the vanes that straighten out the shaft; it’s the shaft returning to its un-flexed shape. Same as a bare shaft will do….. and I would be stunned to find out that their bows won’t put a bare shaft right down the middle. Hell, even MY set-ups will do that out to 50-60 yards….
