Have any of you purchased the new Kuiu HD Mud Boot? My Mucks are close to the end of their life, these have me curious given I have enjoyed all the other Kuiu stuff I've bought.
Take a look at the Muck Harvester boots, spouse likes them pretty well.
My boots were toast and I bought them. I have the guide discount so it brought it close to price of Lacrosse etc. thought I’d give em a whirl.
Other than trying them on at home no in field usage to report on. But no red flags yet. Couple nice features for slipping on and off.
They are excellent for checking to see if your pizza is done.
I have them. Have not worn them outside the house yet though. Seem nice, but I suspect I prefer my lacrosse Alpha Agility as of right now.

I'm due for a new pair of Muck Boots. I have worn Woody Max Mucks for years now and have ZERO complaints. I use them from October through February with a pair of poly liners and a heavy merino sock and love the set up. I go about 5 years with a pair before the insides and neoprene uppers begin to wear out. That being said, I would love to hear more feedback on the Kuiu boots regarding the warmth and durability.
Appreciate the info folks. I'm in your boat Griz. My last pair of Woody Max are closing in on the end. I can probably get this season, but not the next. I've found Kuiu's stuff to be great overall, so as I start looking at either another pair of Mucks, trying LaCrosse again after probably 15yrs or trying something new (Kuiu) I was curious what folks would say. If you hear from other folks in your "circle", Griz, I'd love to hear your intel.
I love my new Chene rubbers. Perfect right out of the box. They come with different inserts to get the perfect fit. I went with the uninsulated but I’m sure with good socks and toe warmers they’ll be just fine. I do that with every pair anyway.
Rut - hmmm, I'm not familiar with them. Thanks for the lead - Ill google them up! Thanks, Man!
I've had the Chene boots for a year. They have a zipper that makes on and off easy. I like them and would buy again. Much better than any Muck boot I've ever had.
Based on my great experiences with Kuiu, I went ahead and bought a pair yesterday. Once I get them I will provide a comprehensive review. Price was $199 with free shipping which is slightly more than I could get Woody Max Muck Boots for. The best price I found with my size (11) in stock was $169 plus shipping. More to come once I recieve the boots and use them.
I received the Kuiu Mud Boot yesterday and right out of the box the quality is evident. My analysis will be against a very heavily worn pair of of size 11 Woody Max Muck Boots. The Kuius are also size 11. Weight: Kuiu = 5.2 lbs, Muck = 4.4lbs. The difference may be lesser with a new pair of Mucks but I noticed no difference with them on my feet walking around. The Kuius are 1 inch taller and have higher rubber, as opposed to neoprene, on the front and back of the boot. This will provide more protection from thorns etc. The Kuiu also hase reinforced rubber patches at the arch and toe. The tread is aggresive but open enough to believe that mud will clear easily. The pull handles are strong and helpfull and the kick plate on the heel to get the boot off is also a nice add. I tried the boot on with my standard sock set up, a polypro liner and a heavy merlino boot height sock. Fit was very comfortable with a touch more room in the upper calf. I have big calfs and sometimes find the Mucks a little tight with pant legs tucked into the boot but I think the Kuius will be a little less tight. The fit from mid calf down was like a glove and I felt very little heel lift or movement when walking. At this point, I give them a slight edge vs the Mucks but practical field use will be the final judge. As I said before, I have had no issues with Mucks but wanted to try something new and am glad I did so far. I will update as the season progresses.
Griz - thats really a good review so far, thanks! Three questions on your initial use:
1.) Do they feel like you could wear pants OVER them? For example thermals tucked in but your outer layer over the boot?
2.) GREAT to hear you have good sized calves too, that's a challenge for me as well. I have Kuiu gaiters which are pretty tight on my calf, so I have to wear them a bit low - that's fine for my use - I just wear them to tuck pants in to permithrin soaked gaiters to keep ticks off in warm conditions. So good to know these have larger calves.
3.) the ankles feel secure, and not like your foot will be sliding all over the place? I'm guessing you will have to hike around some before you can answer this, but as you get that info, I'd love to hear.
Will, 1. You could wear pants over them with no problem. If it is really cold and I am wearing heavy wool pants, I leave them over my Mucks because I can't fit them in. With the Kuiu boots there is maybe and extra inch in diameter at the top 1/3 to mnake them more comfortable for me over the tight fit of Mucks. 2. Big calfs can be a pain but I'd rather them than chicken legs! 3. 1/3 down the boot from the top they fit like a glove. I only walked around the house and up and down starirs a few times but they did not move at all. My Mucks do flop a little in the bottom 2/3s so I like the way the Kuius feel better. It will require more outdoor walking to insure this is true but they do feel very good. I suffer from blisters easily so am really obsessive over fit.
Griz - super to hear those answers. THANK you for taking the time!
Update: I wore them a few times now and they feel great. Very comfortable and easy to walk in. Weather has been warm so now cold weather review yet. They seem to breath well and after walking my socks are dry despite the warm weather. I only have one small complaint. Since the boots have rubber uppers compared to mostly neoprene on the Mucks, they do squeak a little when rubbing against each other or in one of my ladder stands, if I rub the front of the seat. I think this can be easily fixed with a little 80 grit paper but Kuiu may want to take the polish out of their molds with some sandblasting. Other than that, I love the boots. More to come when the weather changes.
How far you fellas walking in these rubber boots. And, what kind of terrain will you be walking in?
I want to like rubber boots so much. But, I can’t. Not for hunting anyways. I use them for chores and such. However, maybe they’ve gotten better?
WV - for me, when wearing muck/Lax style boots, I'm walking in rolling to hilly terrain, often with seeps and wet areas, not "far" though. Like 1.5-2mi one way max while wearing them. Likely less hilly than your areas, as best I remember my experiences in WV - it always felt like it was up or down there. We have hills, by where I hunt is not as hilly as WV.
I actually walk more in them scouting/shed hunting or turkey hunting than actually hunting... That said, I've been using hiking boots with permithrin soaked gaiters more the past few years when it's warm and drier, to keep the walking easier.
