I ran up to check my cams today and hung two more in an area 2 miles from my main spot.......on a wallow I got tons of fun pics off of in 2022. Will be my backup spot and has more bulls than the main area. I am hoping the bulls will move down to the main area once the rut gets started in mid Sept. These pics are of the little meadow where I plan to have my 2nd tree stand setup. The camera has its back to a major elk trail into the meadow and faces down towards a small jag of timber that separates this meadow from a much larger open and sunny meadow. This meadow is very damp and creeks are running down through this area in several spots. There is dark timber all around....so it has food, shelter, water......everything and elk wants.

Nice! I'm in PA and pretty sure my elk huntin days are over. It's cool that you guys that live out west can still find spots that ain't over run with hunters.

There were plenty of rec campers...not as many as I expected. In the camp spot below my skid road access were 4 crammed into on spot and a 5th wheel next door by the creek. Crammed full. The big overlook by white rocks was empty......unbelievable...its not been filled all summer that I have seen. Folks will start parking their campers to claim their spots for season in a few weeks if the past is any guide....even though limited to 16 days.

It is green and plenty wet still....but not nearly as wet as 3 weeks prior. I am banking on these little herds of moms and babies bringing in the horney horned boys by mid sept.

If I had pics like that I'd ask myself, what would Paul do? Maybe hang a stand and kill one by 10am first day? Sit at that wallow? However ya do it, I hope you notch your tag buddy.

We have been surprised at the lack of campers in those certain spots.

And the FS gal told me the limit was 14 days and then they have to leave the NF land , not just move to another spot. I know a couple of camps that may get reported this year. We'll see I guess.

The boys should start showing up on your cams soon, looking forward to the hunting updates.

Funny....the sign at the cattle guard says very clearly....16 days. hmmmmm

Jordan, the 14 day limit is for campgrounds. Dispersed camping limit is 16 days.
