So my 15 year old son decided he wants to get into archery! He has shot 2 doe with a crossbow, but last time hunting was 2 years ago (crossbow). He shot for the first time today and has done well! I am so excited. He asked me about my elk hunting experience and I told him. He is excited. Next year is likely the only time we can hunt the west. (He will most likely get recruited for baseball.). I have had good luck in mt. Do I do a combo tag there? I don’t care if he shoots a cow or a bull, I just want to give him the best shot at anything. Any input is appreciated. Feel free to pm me.

Good on you Dad! Enjoy I took my boy after turkey and deer in his early teens. He enjoyed it but not as much as video games, and friends and football. Now he is 26 and showing interest again. Hoping he can take over my equipment when I get over this addiction. Hoping more I can get him out and show him some of the ropes.

I see your excitement, good for your guys. If you guys have no points, but I my be wrong. Your only option for a tag isu otc Co, Id Also I think you can only use hand drawn bows, at least in CO you do. I'd not 100% sure.

I believe there are no OTC non res tags in Colo, starting in 2025.

He is using a compound, doesn’t like the crossbow. I don’t know why all of a sudden he is interested, but I’ll take it!

Jordan, that was the same here.

How old is he? Youth in MT are guaranteed a tag (or at least were a couple years ago). MT general would be a good choice for him. You also could buy a pref point (not a bonus point) and have a decent shot to draw a general tag yourself.

Not sure about MT but Colorado will still be giving out tons of tags to non residents even once they go to a draw in 2025. You’ll just have to apply instead of purchasing OTC.

Good for him. If he actually follows through and gets the bug, he has many years of enjoyable (fanatical? ;-)) activities ahead of him. Hunting is as fun as it gets, and ethical bowhunting is the pinnacle of hunting !

Between the Colorado regular draw and the secondary draw (which favors youth permits) I'd say you have an excellent chance of drawing in Colorado next year with zero points. In the regular draw, just be sure to look at the drawn out numbers so you apply in those units where 0 point draw is a decent possibility. And as someone else said you can't beat the price of a Colorado NR youth permit. $100 gets you into a lot of fun.

Awesome! Great ideas about the youth tag.
