Logging would greatly help reduce forest fires. Loggers cut trees and clean up pretty good in my area. They also make great fire roads. My loggers always cleaned up the brush where they trim the trees and put it in piles. Rabbits love the brush piles.

I’m in Sheridan, WY. Many days it’s really hazy and sometimes you can’t see the mountains. Occasionally you can smell smoke. Fortunately our neighborhood isn’t threatened by fire.

I learned years ago that I don’t want to live anywhere with trees next to my house. We had a ton of oak trees on our property. There was either a county ordinance or an HOA ordinance that said you couldn’t cut down oaks of a certain diameter. Well the Oakland Hills fire happened and I went out cutting down some 30-40’ oak trees that were twice to three times the diameter they said not to cut. Fire anywhere near your home blowing your way even in neighborhoods you need to plug up your gutter downspouts and fill your rain gutters with water. Sparks can roll down the roof into gutters where there’s alway combustible material. Small fire starts and goes right under shingles to start a fire. Under every type of roof covering is tarpaper that can easily ignite. This info was passed on by a Cal Fire Captain.

smoke and haze from wildfires are common where i live. some days depending on wind direction we are socked in with smoke and need to close windows.

can something be done? it sure can. but, like drugs, homeless, wars, illegal immigration, race, etc., wildfires are big business for both government and industry. some do not want it resolved or even improved. factor in private landowners, environmentalists, as well as the support it provides for the global warming agenda, not enough has been or will be done to reduce it to a level where fires are less common and less severe.

Travel through the forested areas of Idaho, and there are so many beetle killed trees. It defies logic that they can't or won't log those out. Is the spotted owl bs still a thing?

From: butcherboy

It’s environmental groups. They use the court system to block logging, prescribed burns, or just general thinning of brush and trees. I think the RMEF just had an article about this not too long ago.

It's insane we talk about this every year...tons of soot in the atmosphere all because we severely limited cutting timber- a renewable resource all due to Hack Environmentalists.

A buddy told me there is a literal room devoted to the frivolous Environmentalists lawsuits at the CA state capital- which shuts down logging and almost any kind of reasonable forest management.

Ca has been ruled by Democrats for many decades...about the same time we started allowing the Hack environmentalists to call the shots. Then the whole thing burns. What an absolute waste....when are we going to get some Common sense gov policy?

It's much like every other policy by these idiot liberal Dems running the show that caused out of control Crime, Homeless pooping on the sidewalks, Budget deficits, Businesses closing, High income folks leaving the state, highest energy bill in the continental US, Highest gas tax, etc- all because of Dem policy. And now we have that same CA faction in Kamala trying to turn the US into failed CA as president? Wow

At what point do CA and US citizens wise up and see that many of the problems are directly due to Democrat policy decisions?

One just popped up north of Hwy 34 west of Loveland today......and my wife said one popped up in the parkway median directly behind our house. Forking smoker idiots are often the cause thowing lit butts around. Hate this chit.

Get rid of the liberal democrat environmentalists and let the logging and timber companies do what they were once able to do and most of these big wildfires go away. The national forest here is a junk yard for dead down trees. Hard to even ride a horse through it but by god there are no loggers or timber companies in there anymore.

I have people close to me that just don't understand land management that are very liberal... selective cutting actually saves trees and eco- systems, wild fires destroy everything in their path, including owls and many endangered species of wildlife.

I encounter the same arguments time after time, be it land management, climate change, wildlife management... you name it I get the same lame talking points on any conservative Idea I suggest.... I end up stating it's your children and grandchildren that will end up suffering from your stubbornness do to your shallow way of thinking. scentman

They are logging all over and you can't fight Mother Nature. Beetle kill and wildfire are a given these days.

Jordan watching coverage right now on that fire, hope all are ok.

They are logging in many places, but they can't cut it all down.

A quick drive through most of Wyoming will show you that this place is one big tinderbox this time of year... in the sage prairies and much of the mountains.

Throw in low humidity and wind and you have an environment ripe for smores and hot dogs.

From: Beendare

Remember the spotted owl and the photos the environmentalist weinies would post of clear cuts- wringing their hands and complaining it looks bad? How does that tower of smoke look to you?

They won't comprehend the renewable resource thing...but maybe leave them in a burned to the ground smoke filled town for a couple days so they grow some IQ points.

Install waddles, reseed and replant and it's a renewable resource plus its habitat for all sorts of critters....AND it will be a forest in 10 years again.

The feds are out to kill over 400,000 great grey owls in the west because they prey on the smaller spotted owls. Oh they talk about natural selection and babel about their Nazi science views and then go out and screw with nature only to create another disaster.

Still growing tonight. Doubtful it would make it down to us. Obviously people and homes are what matter but folks with S57 sheep tags will be watching this.

Forecast looks dry, not good.

It hurt my heart to see the smoke strung out to the east this morning. ugly. traumatic. I hope folks are safe, both living west of Loveland and the firefighters. I hate fire season.

We had fires here in Ca a few years back that Blanketed the entire Western US for 3-4 months.

Thats bad policy right there...by the same political party that has been running CA for decades and throwing tax money away on their silly stuff........while letting Environmentalists shut down logging and not creating fire breaks.

Hopefully, folks see the political party behind this bad policy and wise up.

Don’t know what the yellow dots are but that fire can’t go very far to the north before getting into the Cameron Peak burn scar - which was the largest fire in Colorado history

Brad

I assume that is a good thing? It's now been several years but I'd think it would be easy to fight in an area that has burned recently.

The new fire is freaking scary......they are evacuating all of Lyons I hear. Looks like the fire is right on top of them. And the Alexander Mt Fire doubled in size today to freaking 3500 acres.....0 containment. No bueno.

Smokers take alot of heat for fires, but alot of roadside fires anymore are caused by vehicle malfunctions. We battled one this spring in extreme conditions. Saved multiple structures. 14 miles worth of grass fires in the ditch, median, other side of the road, etc. We suspect a semi with a blown inner tire. We also get them from flat tires, dragging chains, etc.

Nation is PL5 with tons of resource order unable to be filled. They are getting help from NZ and Australia. We have 4 brush trucks sitting in our stations right now as it isn't our fire season. It would take alot of money to get them to NWCG standards, then you have to find employers willing to let you leave for 2 weeks. But we could have engines on the front range in 8 hours with time and money.

and now a 3rd fire started last night around 9 pm. Hoping the smoke doesn't make it too far south. We don't have air conditioning and if it gets too smokey we won't be able to open up the house for the night to cool it down.

Tragic loss. Off topic but In CA the Chico fire is now 30 square miles incinerated and 12% contained.

I live in Co Spgs. We had huge wildfires IN TOWN in 2012 and 2013. ~1000 homes lost and a handful of lives. I worked on DOZENS of houses that burned in the 2012 Waldo fire, and a few in the Black Forest fire 2013. And many on the rebuild side of both as well.

Park Fire COUNTIES Butte, Plumas, Shasta, Tehama STARTED 7/24/2024 ACRES 389,791 CONTAINMENT 18%

Western slope of the sierras. Another monster fire. So far this year in California 4,665 Wildfires 763,425 Acres Burned September and October are the two worst months for fires here. Last year I saw a video of bucks migrating out of a fire area. Some very nice deer. The fire up north also has elk in that area. After it’s out there should be some good deer hunting in the eastern zones that weren’t burned. Down here in the southern part there’s fires every week blowing up.

I asked OnX what the yellow dots are on the active fire layer.

This was their answer: “ Those are hotspots. The nice part of this new feature is that you can often see the new hotspots before the perimeter is updated by the NIFC, as that perimeter can sometimes take a day or two to get updated.”

There are areas that have had aggressive vegatation management that are still burning.

The Park Fire in California has moved from the rolling grass oaklands east into the forest. It is burning a heavely logged forest area, that is heavely roaded and has had lots of forest work.

Same in Oregon, some of the fires are in heavly logged forest prepped areas.
