If you are trying to decide what route to take to the mountains, you will want to be aware of a closure in Western KS. Sounds like the detour will be a pain.

Looks like an approx. 60 mile detour the way they have it routed. Just went in and it says 24 hours on September the 4th.

Grew up and lived not to far from there, it is pretty country, not as featureless as the interstate route. Give it a try it won't add that much time.

If I remember correctly. That bridge was fairly low and been hit numerous times. Lots of marks on the concrete from getting hit.

Just take Old Hwy 40. It parallels I-70 through that stretch and will save you 45 miles. If you’re in an elk hunting rig you won’t mind a little sand/gravel.
