Turn in tag 76

After not drawing the 76 tag again I had resolved to not hunt elk this year. Then I received the email from CDOW telling that I was next in line for a tag that was returned. After applying for 19 years I’m late to the party but I do have a plan A. Any last minute advice would be appreciated. PM me if you prefer. At 59 years old the odds are I won’t be back in 76 again. Thanks in advance for any info provided.

You won't be the only one starting late. Handful of 76 tags sold this week. Can't help with info but good luck and soak it in.

Plenty of past discussions about 76 on bowsite....google search will find many for you. Then what Forest wisely shared......combined with some steep north facing timber.....you should find elk.

Great deal for you Todd....I have 23 pps, and no one to hunt 76 with....too much out of shape to go alone this year...soon I will be too old to handle the climbing and long days too far from camp....hope you have a great hunt.

Congrats on the tag SC. Just curious, since you didn't "draw" this tag but backed into it, do you lose your PP's?

Yes Chuckster. When you obtain a tag in the manner that SC did, you lose your points.

What type of hunt are you looking for? Day hunts from the truck? Backpack in? Steep and nasty or more mild? I hunted it last year first rifle with my daughter. She killed one opening day so did not see a lot of the unit. But happy to chat with you on what I learned.

Sure wish I would have known there would be some turned in. My Son & I both applied with either 8 or 9 points. Can’t remember. He drew, I did not. I’ll be tagging along on his archery hunt but rather than just spectate this year I picked up a rifle either sex tag for our normal OTC unit so I can hunt with my Grandson. Oh well. Good luck to all this fall!

Good luck. I dreamed of one of those tags back when I lived in CO but wasn't there long enough to have enough points to be in the game. It seems like it was BB that used to post annual photos from the region but that's all been a long time ago. Hope you have a great hunt.
