Headed to Alberta tomorrow at 2p to hunt with Mike U and his outfit. First serious mule deer hunt and I am fired up to get the opportunity. I am not a long range wizard like the western guys, but I can hit a pie plate consistently at 70yds. Gonna be interesting to see how a southern redneck who is used to pine thickets can do in the crop fields up north!! Hopefully I can make a small contribution to the site by adding to this post over the next few days. It won't be anything like what Forrest contributed, but it's gotta be better than talking about Kamala or who is/is not shaving their nether regions!

35 yards from a 190ish buck to start off the trip. Drew twice and had to let down and he finally caught us! Needless to say……I’m impressed with Mike’s operation! Maybe I can get a pic of him and post it later. Saw a nice moose as well.

After Jim shot his buck Gerard was headed back to the truck and we were gonna unload the ATV to go get the deer. He looked up from texting and less than 400 yards from where Jim’s buck lay dead there was a mid 180’s bedded in a thin strip of timber. He backed up and we met up in a canola field about 400 yards east of the Buck and started the stalk. He was in the match stem thick timber, but we were able to get within 25 yards of him. We were struggling to find a spot where we could shoot when he stood up and he caught us!! So close, but so many things can happen. It’s early and I’m tickled for Jim, so we will spend the rest of the evening celebrating his kill!
Keep an eye on the doves for me Greg!! My boys hunted by themselves for 3 hours this afternoon in a clear cut behind the house. They had some shots, but no kills.

Long day yesterday. Stayed with the big buck they cal Mel from 11 until 5:30 and decided to back out because the canola that he was bedded in was so tall that even if we got within range a shot just wouldn’t have been possible. Saw a lot of deer the rest of the evening, but just nothing that we wanted to chase. No other kills, but today is a new day!!!

Yes Sam, I am hunting with Gerard. We have had a great time, and you are correct. No mistake for this deer to be in the canola. Saw him yesterday from the top of a pump jack. Otherwise we’d have never known he was in the world, but today he was in the wheat. I have a bunch of pics that I will post when I get back in the US, but my cell service just isn’t good enough.

Mike’s camp is phenomenal. The hunt format is beyond thrilling. I have to say that the only thing better than his outfit were the super high quality hunters in camp and the premade breakfast burritos.
Keep after it fellas and Josh, make sure to give Mel some medicine.

Missed one at 58 yards. Should have taken a little more time on the shot. Left and right was perfect, but sailed just a touch high. Better conditions today than yesterday and we know where some really nice bucks are staying, so maybe we can get it done. If not, we’ll have a blast trying!

Josh, you put in the time, you worked and worked and worked day after day. You laid below the wheat for 6 hours through 3 rain storms with no rain gear on only for the wind to die, swirl and a buck pins ya and busts.
You came back day after day with a positive attitude, had fun and worked.
