I have got some good info here before. We have a shuttle taking us to the Maroon Bells to do some hiking in 10 days. I found info online about 3 trails. Any suggestions? Hoping to see mnt goats, sheep and elk.

Anything else we can do in the area? I am with the wife, which means simple hikes (and drives) not wilderness backpacking.

Stop in at the Monastery in Snowmass if you have a chance. They might let you hike there too. I know it closed recently but it still may be open to visit. My wife's uncle was a monk there for 40 or so years and we visited him a few times. Very beautiful place. He is now stuck in Western Mass.

you guys can laugh but I caught plenty of trout in Maroon Lk from the bank w/ a fly rod with 100's tourists walking around looking at their phone.

I’ve seen both elk and goat at buckskin pass, it’s the 4th pass in the loop going clockwise so you’d have to approach it counterclockwise if you’re not looking to do all of it. Amazing area and well worth the effort.

You can also get off the shuttle at the East Maroon trailhead a few miles before you get to the lake. Less people and the trail will take you along the opposite side of Pyramid Peak. Look up on that side of Pyramid for goats. Lots of elk up there also, but you probably won't see them from the trail. Fishing is excellent in the Roaring Fork, but it's very low and fish are spooky this time of year. If you want to hike and fish a high mountain lake, try American or Cathedral Lake. Both accessed by driving up Castle Creek. There is also the ghost town of Ashcroft up Castle Creek that is pretty interesting.

Heading out Sunday to help my son who has his first Wyoming resident elk tag. More excited than when I have a tag.

Good luck to everyone.

Elk deer and goat around. There are a lot less goats than before with the many nanny tags they have issued.

Buckskin as mentioned historically has a few
