This guy has been hanging around our back yard for a couple of weeks now. Never see, of get a photo, in daylight. As of September 9 he's still in velvet. He is about 5 miles from anywhere hunting is legal.
What a toad! It's great to see the potential of bucks that reach maturity.

5 miles from anywhere hunting is legal, does that mean you can’t hunt him? I’ve never heard of people not being able to hunt in their yard but I suppose there might be an acreage requirement to hunt there? Definitely a stud.

Yeah, I call them Sanctuary Bucks,,, bucks that don't, or rarely leave a safe sanctuary...
I think this guy hangs out, or hung out on a golf course property, he was filmed while crossing the golf cart path... I created this screenshot a couple years ago off a short video clip I seen of him filmed in September 2022... He'd been running hard with gapping mouth, so something had been pestering him... I expected to see him on a magazine cover or go viral on the internet, put hasn't happened yet... You would think when dead we'd hear about it, so heck he might still be out there...
Back in the 80's there was a huge Ohio buck (which made the cover of NAW magazine bye the way) that was killed Thanksgiving week (if I remember right) near the edge of a golf course... It took the rut to pull him off his "Sanctuary"...
Those are awesome deer. Zbone - I've seen that impact here. Sometimes it's just land that cant be hunted, but sometimes it's even very suburban and even urban areas.
